It probably should also be reported as such. But they’re going for ease of understanding.

All you need to remember and understand is how your household compares to the average. Higher lower or about the same and you can make a (fairly decent) guess as to how your bills will change quickly. That’s the main goal.

Telling the vast majority of mathematically and scientifically illiterate scum (obviously I’m joking 😜) of the UK about the changes in kWh you then have to know what a kWh is and how much you use and what that means for your overall bill. A much more complicated equation than the former.

I’m sure somewhere for those that are interested it is expressed in these terms but for a mass communication I don’t see the issue with how they’re doing it.

Well, there’s another fine mess you’ve gotten us into.

The vast majority of the electorate do not care one jot about this.

Do you think all the people currently struggling with the cost of living, lack of healthcare, high taxes with nothing to show for it, public services going down the drain etc etc, care about whether a political party supports a ceasefire for somewhere thousands of miles away?

I dunno, that’s why I was interesting in reading some analysis you may have. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume people can care about more them one thing. I find your claim unbelievable, but I’m happy to be corrected.

It’s the height of ridiculous virtue-signalling and “optics”.

I’m not sure how we, as a society, have gone from I oppose the needless random killing of innocent people to oh stop virtue signalling.

Damn! Tories will have nothing left to offer old wealthy people apart from hating immigrants… /s.

I think they should split.

I think Labour should split.

I think we should have fringe loonies on the right, fringe loonies on the left, and a sensible forward thinking centre ground group of parties that represents the majority of the electorate. Doesn’t have to be a single centrist party, but a group that can align on most things.

But that would never happen under FPTP. 😢

mannycalavera,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

It doesn’t, correct. But my point is that the centre ground has to compromise more because of their very nature. It’s inherently less extreme that the far right or far left. Literally by definition.

Whilst there is a danger that “nothing gets done” in a coalition of the centre ground (which I think your poo meme is getting at?) I think the dialogue and willingness to accept compromise is better there. I’d rather have a government and politics on that basis than extreme lurches to the left and right with zero room for compromise if you’re not in one group or the other.

So no, it’s not a silver bullet. You’re right. But that’s just where I’d rather be. PR as the form of government election voting in the UK and then to fill the house with a true representation of the country, which I don’t believe is as extreme as the current system portrays it.

mannycalavera,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

Mostly at council level. Momentum (and I don’t think they’d mind that badge). Recent choice words by Labour councillors. It’s thankfully not the norm anymore but it’s there.

mannycalavera,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

Compromise is not what is needed, progress is what is needed

The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

mannycalavera,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

Yes they are. Compromising with the side that support status quo is inherently against progress

Forgive me but that’s a straw man argument. Why assume that parties in the centre want the status quo? That’s not what left, right, and centre politics means.

mannycalavera,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

Eh? 😂 Did I say that? Sorry I’m totally lost now. Care to explain?

mannycalavera,
@mannycalavera@feddit.uk avatar

Riiiiight. 👍

Team boss Christian Horner of Red Bull Racing is accused of sexual misconduct, according to reports and documents. On February 3, lawyers for Brit (50) offered the reporter to settle for £650,000. (twitter.com)

“The riot within Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing around the independent investigation of team boss Christian Horner turns out to be one of great proportions. The female employee who reported to the headquarters of the billion-dollar group in Austria in December 2023 accuses Horner of sexually transgressive behavior....

Damn!

Right, lads, who has these Spicy Horner sausage pics? You know… for research purposes 😉.

So this particular graffiti gets counted as antisemitic just because of its particular location?

I think so, yes. It’s the same as the “fuck the monarchy” / “not my king” protestors at the Queen’s funeral / Kings Coronation thingy. Isolated on their own these protestors are well within their rights to display these banners. But in the context of an event where it might cause offence or be interpreted as hateful actions then the law is a little greyer. So in this context, deliberately protesting and graffiting in a large Jewish (actually a large Orthodox Jewish) community could be seen in that light.

Now, agree with that or not (I don’t) that’s kinda what I think they are getting at here.

Other features, like Thunderbolt, running displays over USB-C, the system’s built-in microphone, and the Touch ID fingerprint sensors, remain non-functional.

But at least the OpenGL benchmarks work 🫠

Problem is, just like pensioners this cohort of active voters (entitled parents) have the ear of political parties. They threaten to vote with their feet. These daft policies don’t start in a vacuum. Middle class parents have lobbied for years to get to this stage and the government had obliged rather than do the hard thing and better educate parents on how to keep their children safe online.

Can’t wait for Keir to get in and reverse or axe this policy. That’s what he’ll do, right? Right?

But 5 mins on any subreddit and you have people frothing at the mouth to hang every criminal.

5 minutes on any subreddit and you realise that you’re more than likely speaking to a 14 year old in the US.

Last time I looked a majority of Brits support the death penalty. Which personally I’ve always found quite disturbing considering all the problems with it

I would agree this is disturbing but I am not aware of any mass poll on this topic that’s not from a right wing fringe group / newspaper. Do you remember where you saw the claim that the majority of Brits support the death penalty?

So what do you think?

No the death penalty should not be reintroduced. I would support tougher sentencing, however. But additionally it should come with multiple programmes to increase social cohesion (youth activities, arts, sports, community outreach, education, quality jobs, etc, etc) such that being a hardened criminal is not a viable or attractive option in the first place. The death penalty as a deterrent to criminal activity did not work when we had it and doesn’t work today either (see the US).

No evidence?

From the article:

Azhar Ali, who suggested Israel had allowed 7 October attack to happen

You can’t be suggesting that the is evidence for this? I don’t think you are and we might have our wires crossed, but just to check.
