I feel like they would need protection from sudden onset suicidality first.

To be fair namecoin and emerDNS were/are trying to solve the centralised bit of the web, the DNS root.

I’m on an instance federated with them, and subscribed to a couple of their comms, but their most popular politics boards are exactly what you’d expect from it being where r/chapoTrapHouse went.

I’m not a gamedev, but have you considered LGPL? My understanding is it allows the use of the library in proprietary software, but still requires improvements to the library itself to be released (although without the network requirement)

When people were making their own open source artificial pancreas systems, the corpo vampires were screaming that unregulated software would kill people. Now the regulated software has nearly done just that.

Considering how they can be used to spy on you, 7 million now need to be replaced already because of the 3g switch off, and can be used to remotely cut you off or switch you to prepayent without warning. It’s hardly surprising corpos like him love them.

Because of who controls the presses in capitalist countries.

An Alcubierre drive doesn’t move faster than light, it compresses the space in front of a ship and expands the space behind it.

There’s a whole bunch of theoretical problems though, like potentially killing everyone inside the bubble with hawking radiation, or destroying everything at the destination with high energy particles.

Would be kinda embarrassing to obliterate the first alien species we encounter because we accidentally parked our probe too close to their planet.

The state of the so called “labour” party where someone has to apologise for calling a genocide a genocide.

Asked last week if any of Kennedy’s health issues could compromise his fitness for the presidency, Stefanie Spear, a spokesperson for the Kennedy campaign, told the Times, “That is a hilarious suggestion, given the competition.”

That’s hard to argue with tbh.

One Tory MP tweeted today that it was impossible to find a Conservative in the Commons who regarded themselves as further to the right and many were outraged at her hypocrisy.

Succeeding her husband Charlie in the Dover seat after he was convicted of sex offences, she attacked her husband’s victims and was suspended from the Commons because she had “improperly sought to influence judicial proceedings” in relation to the case.

Sounds like a lovely lady.

It looks like they do, yes en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wong_Wing_v._United_States

The fact that they bothered to pass a law at all could be argued to be a tacit admission that tiktok has constitutional rights, if it doesn’t then you could just march in and confiscate it’s servers, since it wouldn’t have the right to due process.

In my head this argument is a little shaky, since it seems to be effectively arguing that Americans have the right to access foreign propoganda machines?

I don’t see why that’s shaky? There a plenty of books written by members of the CPC (Including Xi Jinping himself) on Amazon, in English, should Americans be banned from accessing that foreign propaganda?

Is there a name for this sort of object? I need something like this, but don't know what to type into the webs (lemmy.world)

I’m going to convert my computer chair from pneumatic to static. I’m currently using plastic clasps that are held on with jubilee clips, but they’re not great and need replaced (I’m a heavy lad). A sturdy metal version would be better....

Would Lemmy Benefit from Implementing Polls? (slrpnk.net)

A popular way of dealing with discussions, and familiar to most people, I assume. As far as I see it, adding a poll system to Lemmy is a good way to enhance user engagement. I’m not really aware if this has been a topic before or not, tried looking it up but didn’t see much juice on the topic, so thought I’d spark it up....

Potentially, but any amount of obfuscation opens up the system to abuse.

If you trust the server hosting the community to handle all encryption, it’s trivial for the admin to disable.

If you trust the server sending the vote, then it’s trivial for a server admin to game the system and send hundreds of votes.
