Obsesses over bikes (MTB, Trials, Dirt Jumpers) Apparently I get hurt too much doing dumb (yet fun!) things on bicycles for a kid in his mid 40's. Before bikes I obsessed over racing cars and go-karts on the track for 10 years.

I really want to get this plate for my wife's Model Y. If only it wasn't such a hassle to change it.

Speaking of terrible build quality of Teslas, I came home and noticed the trim falling off of my wife's car for no reason. She didn't hit anything. It just came apart on its own. Took a second to pop the clips back in, but why is it coming apart in the first place!? The other day the front tow hook cover was hanging by a cable for no apparent reason too. 🤷‍♂️

@WTL But I was never drinking the koolaid. When I bought mine, there were no other good EV options out there with this combination of range, performance, and price point.

@mark@tapbots.social avatar

@ssamulczyk I can see that in some places, but not in my town and where my wife is going. It’s definitely not that.

mark,
@mark@tapbots.social avatar

@ssamulczyk I know where my wife parks the car. The car records video 360 degrees and gives alerts if someone touches the car and we can review video. Trust me, no one touched it. Teslas are just terribly built pieces of garbage. I've had countless things come apart on this car already for no reason. Interior as well as the plastics that protect the underbody. Those carbon lip spoilers that they put on the back of the performance models? Those don't even fit the car. They eventually fall off.

Unfortunately on the night before we were going to head home, a Tornado rolled through the area and caused major damage all over town. My car sustained a bunch of hail damage, but luckily nothing worse. Large trees fell over many homes and cars. Power lines down everywhere and trees blocked most of the streets. We were lucky enough to just barely make it out. The event had to be canceled for Sunday because of all the damage.

Another photo of debris all around the tiny home.
Photo of the streets as we were driving out. Covered in debris from trees.
Screenshot from my car’s dash cam showing trees fallen all over the streets. There’s a small opening in between the trees that I was able to barely squeeze through.

Here's a short clip of one of the trials riders practicing for an upcoming event. A lot of the riders were here from all over Europe since this was a UCI event.

Carson Storch is a pro redbull sponsored rider (who rode redbull rampage). Here's a clip of him going down the jump line.

Here's a video clip of me riding down one of the jump lines at the castle.

And this was a very fun trail that had a bit of everything. We rode it about 4x to get more comfortable carrying more speed, but I couldn't get myself to go faster to clear some of the jumps. But some of the locals say this is one of the fastest trails in the area. It's called Interplanet Janet. I know everything looks flat in the video, but it was mostly downhill and had great features.

@fahrni Don't think so. But I'll keep my distance from any snake if I can. I've run over a few with my bike on trails and those are always the most terrifying moments.

Are movie theaters dying or is it just at my locstion? About to watch IF with the family and shocked that there’s almost no one here today. 🤯 This is a pretty nice theater too. We are the only people in this movie besides one senior watching solo.

Texas has some of the strangest town names.

mark,
@mark@tapbots.social avatar

And then there's places like Paris, Texas that has an Eiffel tower monument with a cowboy hat on top. Though in this small town, they hold the Redbull UCI Pump track World Championship qualifiers. I've ridden there once, but should probably get out there more often. https://www.redbull.com/us-en/events/red-bull-pump-track-world-championship-paris-texas-usa

Been working on a redesign of our website for awhile and I keep looking at the current homepage (https://tapbots.com) and still think it looks great (okay, maybe not the mobile version). Makes it hard to keep pushing forward on a new design when the "work in progress" doesn't look nearly as good as what's already there. I'm sure something will click if I just keep pushing forward. Design is hard.

Was trying to rent a truck at Home Depot to transport something and was turned down because my driver's license expired at the beginning of April. 😳 Not sure how I missed that. Went back into my car, pulled up the Texas DOT website, paid the fees ($30) and my license now expires in 2032. Walked back into Home Depot, showed the guy my temporary ID from my phone and rented the truck for $24 (had to return within 75 minutes). That was easy considering how things started!

My first NAS. I should have gotten one years ago, but better late than never. I retired my 12 year old Promise Pegasus 2 R4 which has been running flawlessly on the original drives, but getting it to connect consistently after the move to Apple silicon Macs has been annoying.

What I'm more excited about is the fact that I just cancelled my Dropbox account after what must be around 15 years of use? Their service has gotten worse over the years and I'm glad to be done with it. Notes in ALT text.

If you have a Synology NAS and use Safari's "Add to Dock" feature for your DSM, I threw together a quick icon for it.

https://d.pr/f/EjNwMC

There's probably better ones out there, but I did a quick search and didn't see anything so I just created this one. Figured I'd share it.

Synology and DreamMachine icons are like two peas in a dock.

mark,

@masukomi it’s just the web interface with safari’s “add to dock” option.
