Could we maybe have a little purity politics please? So that self-described left wing parties don't have fucking bigots that manage to be more regressive than the average tory in charge?
I know that the "women are objects" and "gay people don't deserve rights" positions are fairly normal, but "no children out of wedlock" seems pretty regressive even for the average rightist. Where the fuck did they find this horrible person?
@alda the SNP is to my understanding a party that has generally leant left in recent history, especially in economic and social terms, rather than being a purely nationalist (in the self-determination sense) party without further aims.
This makes it seem like they're trying to mimic labour's bullshit...
labour is totally going to incorrectly relate their local elections wins to them taking an anti trans stance and run on a queer bashing platform for the general election because the current party is a fucking joke where the only unsettled question is whether starmer is a spineless coward or a plant
"Layoffs are happening because of remote work" wow people really will write any fucking excuses for capitalist greed won't they. Outsourcing only started in 2024, no one ever worked with teams across continents before remote work, which itself was invented in 2020.
lol, GitHub just notified me they accidentally deleted my passkey which I guess explains why I've not been able to use a passkey for any auth for about a week
Is there a backpack brand that people don't regret buying? My current backpack is falling apart and I need a new everyday bag (laptop, camera, battery, occasionally some shopping), and it seems hard to say that any of the popular brands care about making bags that last more than a year or two?
By far the best way to resolve a really tense situation that's been building up for months and months is to tell everyone to chill out and step take a break, this definitely achieves exactly that, rather than furthering the frustrations. It's good that this is how people work, it would be terrible if the practical reaction to telling people to calm down in response to a massive breach of trust actually had the opposite effect long term.
I really hope Wayland accessibility support progresses cause I would like to set something like Talon up for bad wrist days, but going back to X is just not a trade-off I'm willing to make (and decreasingly able to, really)
I know that gnome has made great strides on that front thanks to STF grants (I think that's the main driver), hopefully that work leads to better all around support for such 3rd party tooling, or another project popping up to fill that gap
The way people aligned with literal nazis during the nix communitty fuck up keep saying they're made to feel unsafe because of demands to exclude them is just an irritating example of how you cannot reason with a fascist, you cannot point out their hypocrisy, there's no "small steps" to take.
People who equate not permitting bigots with bigotry are actively a danger, as much as those bigots who are funding, campaigning, supporting the would be dictators that capitalist democracies create.
There's enough essays written on this topic, this isn't a new concept, it's just a shame people keep needing to relearn it.
There's no magical balance, and there is no gotcha that will make people who think like that suddenly reconsider. Someone who views rightist ideology as innate but innate identities as choices won't reconsider, because they're entire worldview is built to accept logical conflicts. Same as the freedom crowd who platform nazis and are pro restricting bodily autonomy.
You cannot argue away something as innately contradictory as fascist beliefs. There's no logic or reason to any of it, there's no scientific underpinnings, it's reactionary and regressive beliefs of people who are terrified of the reality in which the world changes for the better because all they expect is those they mistreated doing the same to them.
It is really hard to come up with even just a semi functional two AP layout in this apartment with how thick the concrete walls are. ~5m from both APs and parts of the kitchen still end up being a deadzone, even on 2.4GHz. Sadly I don't think there is a good solution with several walls that are 12-15cm thick...
@daniel minor correction, but *trans people with German passports :/
(really happy for all the Germans who won't have to face the old process, but having fought this battle the societal attitude is not kind to trans foreigners and respecting their identity despite documents)
I will continue saying that free software would suck less if free software had more ideology, not less. If free software embodied more leftist beliefs, it would find itself probably less funded, but also much more resilient against such garbage infiltration.
Of course instead what we got is the open source movement, because what free software really needed was less ideology, that's really helped things
@weddige Correct, it is a right wing talking point, that's the point. The right does not fund anything that it finds threatening, but through historical power and inheritance, that's where money has remained concentrated.
I disaggree that corporations would fund anything they find threatening, and there's nothing more threatening to capital than conscious and organised workers.
The right wing propaganda is obvious lies, but it also accurately represents centuries of decision making.
