medgremlin,

If you are really interested in a folding phone, I have the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 and it’s holding up really well. The 2 screens don’t meet in the middle, but the hinge system is extremely sturdy, and my phone has stood up to lots of drops and fumbles with just one or two scratches. I have the bumper/magnet case, and I have to say, being able to use the Surface pen (the new slim and the classic Surface pen) is so nice. It runs a modified Android with some Microsoft and Office apps built in, and considering I have my entire personal device ecosystem held together through OneDrive, it works out really well to have the Microsoft and Google apps side-by-side.

medgremlin,

I've been having a devil of a time trying to view new communities to subscribe to them. I just keep getting 404 errors.

medgremlin,

Not to mention that some of those side effects can be seriously dangerous.

medgremlin,

Given that the guidelines in question are somewhat subjective, I don't see this having a particularly significant effect on the current deportation practices. The thing that could be interesting here would be using this as precedence for preventing some jurisdictions from attempting to impose stricter arrest policies on other jurisdictions. Such an example might be states trying to force other states to enforce abortion bans on citizens across state lines or drug possession laws.

Type 1 Diabetes Incidence and Risk in Children With a Diagnosis of COVID-19 (jamanetwork.com)

"The incidence of type 1 diabetes in children increased during the COVID-19 pandemic,1-4 but studies have not discriminated between children with and without infection. We analyzed a large population-based, individual-patient data set that included diagnoses of COVID-19 to determine whether there was a temporal association...

medgremlin,

I would also be interested to see the incidence rates of other autoimmune disorders with the same association parameters. Diabetes mellitus is notable in how profound its effect is, but there are a wide variety of other autoimmune disorders with more subtle sequelae that would very likely share features with this phenomenon.

medgremlin,

I hate how they briefly mention the economic problems surrounding children and mostly just focus on women having children as if they are the final and exclusive arbiters of reproduction. It also doesn't address the fact that fewer women of younger generations are marrying because, for a lot of women, being single is better than having a boyfriend or husband. This is a very complex issue and dumping it at the feet of women choosing independence and self-sufficiency is damaging and disingenuous.

medgremlin,

It involves a little bit of cooking (reheating, really), but caprese salad with focaccia bread is always good. Especially if you have a garden with basil and tomatoes on hand.

Does dog fur build up in my lungs (if I cuddle often with my dogs as I sleep)?

So I cuddle every night with my short haired mutt, and sometimes I nap in the afternoon cuddled with my golden retriever. They shed like crazy, and my bed and shirt are always covered in fur. I sometimes get sneezing fits when it gets too much, and id have to take antihistamines....

medgremlin,

I'm not an expert, per se, but I think we covered enough anatomy in our first year of medical school for me to answer with some modicum of authority.

The structures of the bones, hairs, and membranes of your respiratory tract are able to prevent microscopic particles and single-celled bacteria from making it into your lungs. Pet hair cannot get into your lungs passively, and your sneezing is from the microscopic dander irritating those structures. Your mom seems to be grasping at straws or retelling old wives' tales to express her personal distaste for the animals. The worst that can happen here is an allergic reaction, which doesn't seem to be applicable to you.

Except that the sides are adjacent, so it would be a taco, wouldn't it?

Edit: On further reflection, I think that the designation of "bent toast" is just too much of a slippery slope given possible malformations a food could undergo leading to morphology changes. This is the whole problem with morphological naming schema. It's carcinization all over again.

medgremlin,

I made !medicalschool to replace /r/medicalschool

I suppose I should mention that this isn't an "official port" as I was never a mod there. I just wanted to make sure it existed in some form or another.
