Excellent news.

But what have the Tories seen coming that means they don't want to hang on till the autumn?

@mw1cgg @edavies Precisely. 💅🔨

This morning for some reason the first thing I did was decide to listen to a random Game Gear soundtrack. I picked Alien Syndrome because it was the first I saw listed and I enjoyed it immensely.

@famousblueben Oh nice! I don't have any Game Gear ones brewing, but if Mega Drive soundtracks cut the mustard just as well for you, played on guitar, I'm aiming to upload a video including tracks from a couple of them in a day or two.

The #1001OtherAlbums index is finished!!! It only took me 3 months, lol. :blobcatsipsweat:

My question is: was no one pressing records in 1966? There's only one album in our list from that year (Alton Ellis) and it's not even a full album, it's a compilation that includes some singles released in '66.

https://1001otheralbums.com/index/

miblo,
@miblo@mas.to avatar

@buffyleigh Okay, if these are tagged right, here's a pick of what I have from '66:

• "If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears" by The Mama's And The Papa's [contains California Dreamin']
• "Spellbinder" by Gábor Szabó
• "Blonde on Blonde" by Bob Dylan
• "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys
• "Revolver" by The Beatles

I reckon all of these, maybe except "Spellbinder", people didn't bother to pick thinking they're probably on the other other list. I don't know it well, but now digging "Spellbinder".

miblo,
@miblo@mas.to avatar

@buffyleigh Gosh! So, I may well keep this album in mind for Volume 2… (Dude, here's 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)'! Wonder if this is the original.)

Tickled that you put the 18th / 19th Century stuff under their years of composition, by the way. Always been torn about how best to tag that.

miblo,
@miblo@mas.to avatar

@buffyleigh Well, no, the original was Cher, written by Sonny: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bang_Bang_(My_Baby_Shot_Me_Down)

I didn't realise she was around back in the 60s!

This "Spellbinder" does seem well regarded, though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spellbinder_(album)

miblo,
@miblo@mas.to avatar

@buffyleigh Ah yeah, smart. Also, back then maybe the date of the sheet music's publication (soon-ish after composition, who knows?) was the equivalent of today's album release date?

Aww, really? You know, go on then, I'll nominate it! I for one would've been glad to discover it in the list. Hopefully more people do.

miblo,
@miblo@mas.to avatar

@buffyleigh Oh yeah, me too.

miblo,
@miblo@mas.to avatar

@buffyleigh Check out how they mixed Cher's one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13j8kBehIj4

miblo,
@miblo@mas.to avatar

@buffyleigh Amazing, cheers!

Yeah, maybe it depends how we slice it? Either keep it close and only include, you know, "album era" albums; or consider their function as a recording of music and broaden it out to let other eras bring in music recorded in the media available to them.

By the way, on defining stuff, I wonder if you'd be into this poll (17 hours left) by @sean_ae from Autechre: https://mas.to/deck/@sean_ae/112455610043113581

status: feeling annoyed that programmers messed up the definition of "dependency".

in the phrase "X depends on Y", the dependency* is X, but programmers decided the dependency is Y.

[*] also called the dependant or dependent

@Xibanya Can't help thinking this series of performances is begging to be done over a backing track that you keep re-encoding at lower and lower .mp3 quality for each translation…

The last two full albums I listened to both had Roman numerals in the title, and were both numbered "II".

Anyone have other recommendations of albums with "II" in the title?

@buffyleigh Hehe, awesome! Hope you enjoy it!
