Ok i need to know if others have this problem too 😅 when i release a new app or big update and write the press/blogs and they even answer me like „that looks cool, will definitely take a look!“. So i send them some promocodes to get my app for free etc
Then i hear nothing from them after few weeks so i ask them politely something like „did you have a chance to take a look“ blah but they don’t answer again! And then i take it personally 😅 is this just me? I hate that feeling.
@sandropennisi don't take it personally. Biggest factors in getting press for your app, IMO:
-If the writer knows you
-If they already use your app personally or would be a potential customer
-If it's not a busy day when you send your email
-If your app happens to align with something that's a hot news topic
Most of these you can't control, just focus on building great things. News site tip inboxes are flooded with PR pitches daily. Having someone see your email is a victory itself.
visionOS 1.1 volume scaling behavior apparently reverted to the original 1.0 behavior in a recent beta, such that the 1.1 beta 3 release notes are now wrong, so I submitted feedback about this again: FB13649091
I wanted to try something different for the BitMaps icon. It's a bit like a loupe — the idea is that it’s magnifying a tiny map. I'd love if visionOS icons supported semi-transparent layers without shadows. That would allow me to put the map on a layer below the lens. #visionOS
BitMaps allows you to explore and arrange bite-size maps anywhere in your space. You can discover Look Around scenes on an infinite canvas, search nearby, view location information, and view your current location. Make as many maps as you’d like! #visionOS
I was pretty excited about #visionOS parallax icons, but there's two things that I would love to see fixed:
Right now the effect works great if you have flat layers, but if you provide a layer with shadows it's gonna cast a shadow on the shadow… and it's just not a good look 😅
no shade but i really like how they have every former apple designer under the sun working on this thing and these are the UI sounds humane came up with
@michaelsteeber there’s only a few “Experience Rooms” across Apple Retail, but I’d think they’d be perfect places for Vision Pro demos; however, when I did a demo at Carnegie Library the room was locked, and apparently had been for quite a while.
Do you know the status of the other Experience Rooms?
@zmk fantastic read, thank you so much. From a development perspective, I’ve found it much more difficult to use VoiceOver in the visionOS simulator than on iOS. I think this is just a limitation of the simulator controls, but it makes accessibility testing more challenging. I hope this is addressed in the future.
@zmk I’m using keyboard controls to move between controls and read labels on buttons and text. Anything beyond that is a struggle. Changing window focus is especially tough. I wonder if this, combined with the natural logic that a headset is a "sight first" device, will lead developers to neglect accessibility on the platform.
@zmk in my experience so far, SwiftUI text scaling “just works" most of the time on visionOS, probably because the windows are generally wider and not as rigid as iOS. I haven't had to rework many UIs.
I don't want to speak too soon, but I think this is totally solved in all instances in visionOS 1.1. I hadn't tested on that simulator till now, but the same behaviors no longer trigger a crash. That's great! Gives me a lot more confidence about releasing this. https://mastodon.social/@michaelsteeber/111948020929439942
