Does anyone have experience with medical second opinions? I've been working on some stomach issues, and after thousands of dollars of testing, was churned out of the system with just a pill and a "suspected" catch-all diagnosis. If I stay within the same hospital system, will my chart history inhibit my ability to get more help?

michaelsteeber,
@michaelsteeber@mastodon.social avatar

@yosefitche I tried about 9 months of regimented diet experiments before I sought help

michaelsteeber,
@michaelsteeber@mastodon.social avatar

@andy_griffin_design that’s my thought too, thanks. Now the question is if I can get a referral outside of the system.

A detailed look at Apple Jing'an, Shanghai's eighth Apple Store. This location is filled with spectacular architectural details that make it incredibly unique: https://michaelsteeber.substack.com/p/exploring-apple-jingan

@michaelsteeber out of curiosity is there any particular reason you use SF Symbols's Bolt icon as the icon for the closed stores in facades?

michaelsteeber,
@michaelsteeber@mastodon.social avatar

@kevdea I’ve always thought of this icon as shut down/ power off, perhaps my association comes from old computers.

I don’t want to publish my personal address on the App Store. Should I just pull my apps from the EU?

michaelsteeber,
@michaelsteeber@mastodon.social avatar

@glennf I believe I can use a PO Box, I just have no other need for one, so it feels like a silly expense for an app that isn't making that much money.

@harshil great animations!

@harshil you're using them super well here. It's easy to go overboard or create something that looks stock and bland. This is just right

I understand that the business models and incentives are different, but it’s interesting to me that OpenAI started with the absolute best free LLM at the outset of ChatGPT 3.5, and now it’s arguably the worst popular free option. Gemini, Copilot, and even Perplexity have all really leapfrogged it.

My first update to BitMaps for is out. This one allows you to open addresses, coordinates, and links from Apple Maps and Google Maps in BitMaps from the share sheet. I'm super happy with how seamless this feels!

@aemre do you already have USDZ models? You could add them to a window fairly easily. Apple has some sample code on this.

Please enjoy this small batch 1980s guide to DOS computing I recently scanned:

HARDWARE CHECKLIST ("Hardware" means run computer programs or the machines you use "Software") You'll need the tollowing hardware sucessiully run vour soitware to to IBM P.C. : (P.C. means "personal computer"). This is the computer itseli: where the computer's internal workings are stored and information (data) is processed. The onloff switch is located on the right side of the machine, towards the back. VIDEO MONITOR : (That's the thing that 10oks like a T.V. screen.) It is not the comouter: it simply works with the computer. The monitor aliows the user (that's you to see what information is going into the computer. When you use the keyboard (we'll get to that later, your typing shows up on the monitor as you tupe. So you can see what's happening 35 YoU give or receive information from the computer. You can adiust the brightness end the contrast of the mon- itor using these knobs: 2
KEYBOARD Without the keyboard, it would beimpossible to give the computer instructions. The user couldn't run a program without providing information the computer needs to begin work. The computer keyboard is very similar to a typewriter's keyboard, with a few exceptions. To the far left on the keyboard are special function keys. They will 7 HOME PGUP be used for certain pro- grams you will run, 50 don't woriy about them right now. 1 END PROTES 2 3 PEDN To the far right the keyboard FI F2 is a numeric key pad. This pad has arrows on it so you can move the little cursor to where ever you'd like to begin typing You'll see the cursor later. NUMERIC / CURSOR KEY PAD
IMPORTANT KEYS: There are also a few other keys which may be rather important, although unfamiliar to you. • NUM LOCK This key can change the far right key pad. Press it, and you can type numbers on the screen. Press it again, and the cursor arrows can be used. Capitalizes Certain Letters when pressed along with the letter you want capitalized. It's like the "shift" key on a typewriter. It can also give you the top row's characters (@,#,%,*) etc. caps Lock CAPITALIZES ALL 9234455130 LETTERS. This is like "shift lock" on the regular typewriters. Press again to return to lower cas Helps to correct аПу typing RASPIESTS errors you make. It will move the cursor back, so you can correct right on top of the errors "ENTER" Or "RETURN" key. Very important key, you use it when you want information to be entered into the computer. PERIPHERALS These are extra machine attachments that may be used with the IBM P.C. They often require special cables to attach them to the I BM, so ask for assistance when you want to us e the peripherals below: HARD DRIVE : This is like a floppy diskette because it holds information. But. it's a large machine that isn't as portable 35 the diskette. The hard or "fixed" drive can hold approximately 30 diskettes of information! (Some hard drives are smaller, and so hold less information.) The disk drive is very sensitive and mustn't be jarred, or bumped. It works extremely fast to provide information, and mustn't be disturbed!! IDS PRISM PRINTER : The printer gives you information you want on paper. It uses different width papers, and can also print characters (letters, numbers, symbols, etc.) in different sizes. There are several switches to control the printer, but you only need to take note of the switches on the top right-hand corner of the printer. 6
There are two switches that work together to position the paper in the printer. 1. "ON LINE" this means that the printer is ready to accept printing instructions from the computer. When the switch is set in this position, the other switch is not operative- it does you no good to move this. The printer 15 only interested in what the computer wants at this point! 2. "OFE LINE" of course, this switch position means the printer is not receiving information from then printer, and will cooperate with you! Use the right-hand switchs to determine paper information. 3. "FORM FEED" works when the prin- ter is OFF LINE and moves the paper one page at a time. You need only tap the switch to the left to move the paper one page. You use the printer head (the part inside the prin- ter that is actually moving, and doing the printing) to line up where you'd like print- ing to begin on the page. b. "LINE FEED" the printer is OFF LINE to use this function. This switch moves the paper one line at a time. It can help to line up paper to just where you need printing to begin. 3. "FAULT" FORM SET also works when the printer switch is set to OFF LINE. the switch is set here, you can move DaDer forward or backward one line at time! When the a ON LINE. POWER- OFF LINE NORM Red liant indicating polier oN FAULT FORM SET ON LINE FORM FEED LINE FEED Red Light if "ON LINE" Keeps paper in "neutral" position
MODEM : The modem is a small box with several blinking lights. Find it? It's often located on top of the video monitor. There is a switch to turn it on in the back, on the right-hand side. A modem is a spe- cial communication link that uses the tele- phone to help computers "speak" to each other. When ever a modem is in use, you can't use the telephone to which it's attached. Don't worry about running this machine; somebody will help you with it. PLOTTER: The plotter is a low machine that sits on the table. It has an open space in which to put paper. Basically, what the plotter does is graphics. When run with certain software, the plotter will draw graphs, pie charts, bar graphs, and can also be specially programmed to do drawings you would like. It uses instructions it's given from the computer, but it is also like a computer. There are several different styles of letters that the plotter can pro- duce as well as multi-colored graphics. • 8

Visited this house today. It’s being stripped for parts and then demolished. A shame, because it’s beautiful, historic, and has so much potential. It’s hardly been touched in the past 80 years.
