Here's the latest variant picture for Queensland.

The XBB.1.5.* "Kraken" clan (29%) has remained dominant.

The CH.1.1 "Orthrus" clan (18%) appears to be fading.

The "Deltacron" XBC.* clan (17%) is rising sharply, driven by the new XBC.1.6.3 sub-lineage (see below).

XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" (11%) appeared in late March and is growing steadily.

The sample volumes seem representative up to April 5, which is lagging NSW by several weeks.

Here's the latest variant picture for New South Wales.

The XBB.1.9.* "Hyperion" (35%) looks to have just taken over dominance from XBB.1.5.* "Kraken" (26%).

XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" (15%) and XBB.2.3.* "Acrux" (8%) are both also growing steadily, but not spectacularly.

The vigorous mix of very different variants poses a raised immediate re-infection risk for anyone relying on natural immunity from a recent infection.

The sample volumes seem representative up to April 20.

Here's the latest variant picture for Western Australia.

XBB.1.5 "Kraken" (21%) is the leading variant, but is declining. That is a relatively low frequency, reflecting the complex mix in WA.

There is some strong recent growth shown by the new XBB.2.3.2 variant (11%), descended from XBB "Gryphon".

Another growing variant is the new FK.1.1 (11%) - a newly classified descendant of CH.1.1 "Orthrus".

XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" (7%) is growing steadily, but appears a bit slower.

The sample volumes seem representative up to April 17.
