Der Juli ist da. Reddit Exodus Thread; Wer behält seinen Account, wer löscht? German

As your description is rather short and does not really restrict the "recommendation space", I'll start the round of recommendations with Joplin

is that FOSS?

as the answers reflect: markdown for simple stuff (sou can convert with pandoc) and libreoffice for the more complex stuff and sheets especially (its preinstalled with most linux distros nowadays). documents of formal nature that exceed ~10 pages might work best in latex.

if this site is so shit, why dont you post it using your favorite the official reddit app instead?
downvotes are to be expected after shitting on a newly created space that most people seem to like and suggesting a closed source and closed mind organisation like reddit to even consider hosting information that is illegal in most countries after their IPO.

What do you recommend as a good FOSS private and secure chat app on Android that isn't Signal?

I have nothing against Signal. I just don't have access to a phone number right now. I fully intend to use the Signal when I get a number. I know there is no silver bullet, no absolutes in the privacy world but I'm looking for any messengers that are generally considered to be private and secure on Android that I can try to...

thank you! i was surprised not to see that one way more often. i guess it is, because ios doesnt have such a good client as conversations for android.

that point doesn‘t really hold its worth. a murderer‘s house cannot be searched without a warrant just because he is a murderer, he still has a right to privacy, which police need to keep.

according to your take, police are allowed to search every self proclaimed anarchists houses.

I mean, every CEO would do so, because they have a flawed view of their product. That is what they are paid for: believing in their product. Otherwise they would not do their job properly.

Let's just hope the community remains strong to display what we are capable of together, just like with what happened on r/wallstreetbets.

It points to the lemmy instance the post has been published on. It is useful if you want to share a generic link to a post with someone and maybe don't want to share the information on what instance you created your account on, because the other permalink button always references to the instance of your account.

  • Nextcloud, mainly for calendars and contacts; occasionally for sharing files with others.
  • Syncthing for syncing files.

Quick question: have you thought about hosting Radicale and filebrowser instead of NextCloud? I think that would be definetly lighter on your system.

Also: I have read lots of mixed opinions whether mailservers should be selfhosted - what is your take on this? Do you know about problems reaching the big player mailservers?

  • whats your opinion on selfhosting mail servers?
  • why have you chosen baikal over radicale?
  • are you happy with filestash? im torn between filestash and filebrowser

if nextcloud is too heavy for you and you really just use it for filesharing, consider filebrowser. if you also need sync, you can use syncthing. Even combined those two should easily be more lightweight, easier to maintain and less error prone than a nextcloud instance. you will miss out on the additional nextcloud apps though.

im undecided. on the one hand, he feels strongly that promises should be kept, but on the other hand he had that hat almost his entire life and the name of his crew and his fame depends on it.
