So this year marks the 25th anniversary of my first email server going online, and I have been running it continuously ever since (seriously I still have "Happy new year the world didn't implode" emails from 2000 in my email folders)

Nonetheless I still get this mildly dreadful feeling I have been doing it wrong this whole time. As such I have decided to go to https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mwlucas/run-your-own-mail-server and make a modest pledge in exchange for Sage Advice and instruction from @mwl on running your own email server in the form of a DRM free e-book.

I have always been bemused by the irrational fear many Very Smart People have regarding self hosted email. By no means is it easy to set up but maintaining it isn't THAT hard. I have also hosted a Mastodon/Hometown instance for 7 years and I out more work into that, and that same crowd hasn't developed a phobia towards elephants. The propaganda against self hosted email is very strong!

I encourage all efforts to wrest control of email back from Google and Microsoft!

So far the biggest takeaway from this is that good housekeeping services were hard to find

The shitmongers running Google and Big Tech in general are the actors directly responsible for the decline of the internet in the name of growth and profit, as well as the side effects this has had on society in general, but the root cause is that these psychopaths are rewarded handsomely by investors for their toxic behaviour.

This is why I would never work for a publicly traded company again. I did once and realised that even if I wanted to that I would eventually be laid off in a round of job cuts (again) or fired due to being unmanageable or some such thing.

That jackass with the loud vehicle blasting past you on the right?

Turns out he isn't seeking attention at all. He merely finds joy in the suffering of others!

Today I was reminded that If Chrome browser is a garbage fire then Safari is a big stinky flaming turd.

Apple should be ashamed. Safari is completely irredeemable. I now hold more contempt for it than I even ever did for iTunes on Windows.

That is all I have to say about that.

So after more than 3 years of beingy primary "daily driver" computerthing my has sadly decided it's PCIe bus is un-trainable and its USB innumerable. Besides that it has been dropped on its corners one too many times (ok maybe a few more than one too many times) and it's aluminium has bent and it's plastic transmogrified into potato crisps.

As such I have fully discombobulated the unit to see if I can make it boot again and perhaps repurpose it's innards as a True or some such thing.

Sure I could order replacements for the broken bits from @PINE64 but that is like over 50% of the thing and TBH I think this plan is more fun and I want something more robust and janky looking

I am generally of the opinion that economists lack a LOT of awareness (of self and the state of society in general) but sometimes they get the slightest sliver of a clue.

https://www.cbc.ca/lite/story/1.7118020

Towards the end of the article they suggest wealthier Canadians are not spending their excess money because they are getting more investment income by sequestering it and they are living comfortably enough anyways.

It isn't often economists realize really wealthy people actually cause economic stagnation not growth. Even "business conservatives" who are against tax-the-rich have to acknowledge that giving high income earners too much incentive to "save" (generate investment income, capital gains etc) can cause them to hoard wealth and eventually cause stagnation at a structural level.
