It's incredible the ammount of code needed for simple stuff using React. Glad that I get to work with

@pheonix Yes! And when I mentioned HTMX and Django to one guy at work, he said “looks nice for a personal project, I don’t think it would work for something big and serious” I feel that at some point we confused complexity with seriousness 🤷‍♂️

@doublebyte Give it a look, for me the combo of and is a great one, extend HTML and gets rid of the complex JavaScript React combo

New week in review.
A week of teamwork, urban exploration, and tech cleaning, with interesting Mastodon discussions and innovative plant research. 🌿🌆👩‍💻

Weird bluetooth issue: If I use my MX3 Logitech mouse and my Sony WH4 headphones, seems there’s some interference and the audio is terrible. As soon as I turn off the mouse the issue is solved. 🤔 Anyone with a similar issue? On the bright side, I’m trying to do everything keyboard based now haha 🤷‍♂️

🌍 Exploring the Intersection of Art and Technology: Mapping Imaginary Territories 🖌️💻
🚨 In the newest issue: https://buttondown.email/natera/archive/the-map-is-the-territory/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=the-map-is-the-territory
I explore the idea of encapsulating the territory in a map. First by reflecting in some Lewis Carrol and Jorge Luis Borges stories of maps. Then, using an algorithm implemented in I create maps of places that are ephemeral and exist during a short time in the bytes that the computer allocates to it. After that the territories are gone.

A tool, that:

  1. tracks my bookmarks on Mastodon (withouPatreongating them in some creepy ad-tech fashion)
2 checks if there is a link
  2. visits the link in a browser
  3. saves the page to a storage provider of my choice, with relevant metadata (i.e in Zotero, S3, etc).

I do this manually at present - does it exist anywhere?

I pay for @Ivory and donate to @Mastodon's Patreon, and I'd totally pay to support a service to automate doing this, or an instance offering it as a valued added feature.

@mrchrisadams @Ivory @Mastodon I put together an script that runs weekly by a GitHub action to get my favourited posts on Mastodon and write them into a GitHub issue that populates my newsletter, I’m sure the script can be modified to accomplish what you want. You can read more about it here: https://buttondown.email/natera/archive/automation/
The script: https://github.com/nateraluis/luisnatera.com/blob/main/scripts/mastarchive.py
The action: https://github.com/nateraluis/luisnatera.com/blob/main/.github/workflows/mastodon_favourites.yml
Hope that it’s useful.

Week in review 2024-02-05 is out 📬
On this week: Busy week at work with multiple meetings and project planning, but still managed to integrate OpenAPI swagger docs into MKdocs-based documentation; contemplating the Tech Lead role and reflecting on professional growth; wrote a script to automate adding Mastodon posts to future week in review issues; ended the week with a beach outing; interesting links on Mastodon, software, web, and weeknotes.

@villares Yes, it’s a great thing! I was thinking on making a script that runs randomly one of my creative coding sketches and posted to Mastodon, otherwise I feel that the sketches get “lost” or at least forgotten as times goes by.

My blog is running with , and I have a script which runs as pre-commit and checks all files.

Things like:

  • certain keywords are cursive
  • certain tags exist, based on content
  • invalid links
  • http links
  • code blocks are marked
  • preview image exists
  • preview text exists
  • ... some more

Is this something other people are interested in? Then I make the script configurable, and more formal.

@ascherbaum Yes, that sounds a great idea!

Had a dream last night about working for a consultancy company, getting into a 5 hours meeting and then the manager wanting me to make an all night work sprint. I quited on the spot. 😅
Woke up very glad that I don’t work on consultancy anymore and have proper life-work balance.

I’m putting together a workflow to add my favourited toots to my week in review with a script.
Anyone interested in the approach?
I’m thinking about writing a post about it. You’ll be able to read it in my newsletter: https://buttondown.email/natera
