Participating in the Vivaldi Community Talks yesterday really makes me want to do a podcast.

I feel doing one once a month would be great and allow scheduling to be pretty easy to maintain.

I'd love to just sit and talk tech for an hour or so each month with various other individuals who share the same similar interests.

At a certain point in time your stuff is geeky high-tech, the next moment you walk into the „early telecommunications“ exhibition in a museum and there‘s your old mobile phone. 😆

“The thing that really upset Dorsey: Bluesky users demanded moderation and Bluesky put it into place. Yeah, that was the whole issue.”

Good reflection on “decentralized” social media and what Dorsey really wants from it by @davidgerard:

Tax breaks for centers are exactly wrong.

"Evidence that data centers drive job creation simply isn’t there ... they create few jobs and cost about $2 million for each they do manage to conjure up.

[They're] more energy-intensive than labor-intensive and resource usage drives up resource costs and shift financial burdens to other resident businesses and individuals.”

In this week’s roundup, the couple who’ve made themselves the face of pronatalism keep their kids in a freezing home (they say by choice) and slap them to teach them right from wrong because they saw tigers paw their cubs in the wild.

Plus, Google’s AI fail, Kenyan workers write letter to Joe Biden, and more!

These guys actually tracked down a copy of Archie (including the source code) and now have a public Archie server back online!

Archie was the Internet's first search engine (before the web existed). I remember using it in the early 90s.

It's pretty funny how usable 90s tech is: imagine, a search engine that just gives you direct links to file downloads without any other nonsense involved!

Soon after OpenAI released -4o on Monday, May 13, some Chinese speakers started to notice that something seemed off about this newest version of the chatbot: the tokens it uses to parse text were full of spam and porn phrases. The problem, which is likely due to inadequate data cleaning, could lead to hallucinations, poor performance, and misuse.
