Once in a while I check the installed packages for a possible dependency on GTK and when I find a program which has one, I look for an alternative to have one dependency less.
The last time I replaced simple-scan with skanlite and it is a much much better scanning program and with a more pleasant ui on top.
NEW YORK (AP) — The pro-Palestinian demonstration that paralyzed Columbia University ended in dramatic fashion, with police carrying riot shields bursting into a building that protesters took over the previous night and making dozens of arrests. On the other side of the country, clashes broke out early Wednesday between...
So, let me get this straight. I will make a list of things I do not understand and I hope you can clear these points up to me. Please reference them in your reply so I understand to which of these points you are referring to.
Some activists assemble in front of an university.
They are enraged about a political situation on the other side of the world.
That involved countries there have nothing to do with either the University or the country they are now protesting in.
They set up camp.
They break up doors and enter the University’s rooms with force.
They destroy property within the University.
The University watches and endures this for several days.
Finally, after financial and other losses, the University calls Police to end all this.
The protest was neither registered nor was is coordinated; no spokesperson or head was named or is available.
Police was shouted at, attacked, and met with overall and disproportionate anger, hostility and force.
What exacty has this whole action brought to the initial intention of the protesters? Did they reach their goals or got closer to these?
I am exposing myself here because I do not understand the situation and am wondering why everybody is wondering the Police had to mop this up.

It’s just unnecessary. If you can’t control yourself from harming others, animals or things, there is work to do.
I am not saying one can not have the thoughts of doing the wildest or weirdest things. Thoughts about options are okay but having an urge to commit diametral actions or even performing them seems somewhat pathologic to me.
I’m happy to say “i use arch btw” (actually CachyOS but without most of the weird cachyos-stuff but still using their v3 repositories) for about two weeks now. It’s pretty great so far, no breakages or anything, feels very responsive and updates are much quicker to do, too, because pacman works really fast.
Alongside with Debian Sid and flakified NixOS of course…
apt-get install qbittorrent why would I visit their site for any reason?
And just to add - why is torrenting associated with shady stuff? Linux isos are available and download much faster over it, same for some monolithic applications like LibreOffice and other regular stuff.

I disagree. Telling the students there are three states of matter is just wrong and they have all the right to point it out. They keep that information for decades if not corrected/challenged and will give non true statements to others, their children, etc.
What the teacher instead should have said could may be: “There are many states of matter, currently we know of (amount). The most common however are these three: solid, liquid and gas. Maybe you will encounter a fourth: plasma. The others form in very specific situations that are very outside of our everyday life. You can look them up if you want to know more. But for this class, we only focus on the three most common.”
Everything is correct, everything is clear. The scope has been set. Teacher still looks knowlegdeable and reliable. And most importantly: does not lie, tell false facts, he provides options for individual interests and builds trust and does not offer himself for attacks on his position by misusing the trust of the students by telling them factually false content.
Relying on groveling students is morally very bad as that’s no relationship based on trust and respect for the pupils and can easily be challenged, like in this example. You would only be offering yourself for failure and risk your “dethroning”, which is a bad foundation to build on from the beginning.
Depending on class structure another way could be to include the students and have the whole class collect the states of matter they know of. That way the “plasma” ones could shine and get heard. That way you will probably get to the common 4 but maaaybe someone heard of the BE condensat, which would be extremely cool and impressive. Wrap it up with “Great work everyone! Actually, we currently know of (amount) different states, insane, right? For this class we will focus ourselves on…” That gives bonus points for teamplay and class strengthening.

Debian sid user here. If it appears now or in two weeks in the repo does not change anything for me as I don’t depend on the changes for my workflows. For Debian Stable I actually demand them to come much later, in a mostly bugfree version. What’s the rush when it probably needs more field-testing?

Anyhoo, have a read at these two posts about owners having rust marks on their cars and how they are easily removed. They seem to be rusting particles from train transportation or other environmental stuff:
