Touch Screens Are Causing Serious Accessibility Issues For Blind And Visually Impaired People
https://www.rsvplive.ie/news/touch-screens-causing-serious-accessibility-29746727

Touch screen card machines are making blind and visually impaired people's lives more difficult, with some people having to disclose their bank card's pin number to staff in shops and restaurants.

news,
@news@mastodon.toptechtidbits.com avatar

@gocu54 No, not in the least. But what is news is that touch screens are proliferating. Rapidly. Which means the problem is steadily getting worse for the access community. So we want to keep it on people's minds until we find a solution. Speaking of which, something like this might just do the trick:

Researchers Develop Tiny Hydraulic Haptics For Touchscreen Notifications You Can Physically Feel | TechCrunch
https://techcrunch.com/2023/04/27/tactile-push-notifications/

news,
@news@mastodon.toptechtidbits.com avatar

@gocu54 Yes indeed they do. I believe you're referring to JAWS for Kiosk. The only issue with dedicated solutions is that they are not already present everywhere that access persons need them to be, like touch screen phones and tablets, which is where a lot of business payments are taking place today. In my humble opinion the only true solution will be to make all touch screens accessible. Everywhere. With or without installed software. Am I dreaming? Right now, yes, But maybe not for long. 😊

The Redemption Story: The Journey From iOS, To Android, And Back Again | Drew Weber | AppleVis
https://www.applevis.com/forum/other-apple-chat/redemption-story-journey-ios-android-back-again
A few weeks ago I stumbled across a used Android phone, the Galaxy A11 from Samsung. It was $45, so, why not. I'd never truly used the Android OS before. It came, I charged it, and dove in. The Talkback gestures were similar enough to iOS and the ability to pop in an SD card, up to 512 GB, provides mass storage opportunities, no pun intended.

@nellie_m
I could not agree more. That being the case, I think we've truly come to the right place. We prize feedback above all else. Even the uncomfortable kind, because feedback is the only way to truly optimize anything. Both publications were built around reader feedback, primarily from readers via email. We never received much feedback from readers via social media. Until now. And it is most welcome. So happy to be here. 📰

Why Midjourney's New Image-to-Text Generator Is an Accessibility Home Run | Charlie Sorrel | Lifewire
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/why-midjourneys-new-image-to-text-generator-is-an-accessibility-home-run/ar-AA19Gq0w

Midjourney now offers a clever twist on its AI image software, using its powerful machine-learning algorithms to generate text descriptions of already-existing images. This makes detailed image captions trivially easy to make and could totally change the game for blind people when it comes to pictures.
