The family splits into two clans when temperature rises, one stays in the forest, where there is plenty nutrition, the others tries to move to more temperate regions. Neither survives. But when temperature falls again, a new animal spawns and procreates...

It's flourishing even after the planet went rogue...
I haven't killed off its universe (yet), but fixed the bug for future ones...

First we see some greenish blobs appear on the Temperature map. But once they're grown enough, they start spewing seed in circles around them, growing into a dense forest wherever the Temperature is agreeable.

On top of the temperature chart of the planet we see greenish blobs where vegetation grows and blueish blobs where animals are. At some points animals linger at plant locations, since they can eat those, but there isn't enough interplay yet I'd say.

Hello April!

This month's Theme is 'Life on Planets'.
In autumn I tried to simulate the temperature changes on a planet and already tried to evolve life there. But I didn't really think about energy input and output when growing/moving...
This time I'll try to make that more realistic. Step one is Plants. They can grow leaves to eat warmth (I already have a warmth field, I don't want to bother with a light field too. And they correlate pretty well I guess).

Next will be animals eating various parts of plants...

So I'm trying to solve the heat equation numerically. (Here with 2 sources)
But why doesn't it spread in a circle?

I basically do

f(x,y,t+1) = f(x,y,t)+c(f(x+1,y,t)+f(x-1,y,t)-2f(x,y,t))
+c(f(x,y+1,t)+f(x,y-1,t)-2f(x,y,t))

which is the numerical heat equation, right? Do I just need to finetune the c? Or maybe it's not actually a problem and my coloring takes small changes too seriously, after a while it looks nice...
(I already fixed the central horizontal distortion?)
