The Cambre d'Ase (Donkey back) is a mountain in the Eastern Pyrénées, which peaks at 2750 m. Its North Face is almost devoid of snow in early January😱. Some snow might fall this weekend.

After three successive summer droughts in 2018, 2019, and 2020, the dieback of oaks has considerably increased in the center of France.

Florian Mouret and his colleagues from and University, have set-up un new method to monitor oak dieback, using data as input, with terrain measurements to train the classification model.

The method uses the opensource framework to process large multi-temporal

At laboratory, we promote a new very high resolution mission, , to complement with 2 m resolution images acquired with a systematic and global revisit every 10 to 30 days and 4 spectral bands.

We are ready to trade revisit for resolution, as we feel that landscape details with high frequency (buildings, trees, hedges, roads) tend to change less than the low frequency details. But demonstrating it needed work.

We made two studies to try to prove it.

New paper ! We measured expected directional effects on thermal infrared satellite images from , or missions, using simultaneous acquisitions from and an aerial imager from @NASAJPL

Differences up to 4.5 degrees in field of view have been observed, which can be corrected to less than 2°K using very simple models.
