I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

otter,

github.com/cylonid/NativeAlphaForAndroid

I’ve been using this with ChatGPT, and a few other websites where I didn’t want to install an official app. It makes the mobile site look / behave like an app, although there are some small annoyances like when you want to copy text.

This official OpenAI one looks nice too

otter,

Your client may have a bug, you commented 13 times

otter,

I’d also suggest going through and adding these, or even integrating it into this

lemmyverse.net

lemmy.ca is pretty big now which is nice to see

No apologies as Reddit halfheartedly tries to repair ties with moderators (arstechnica.com)

Reddit is reaching out to moderators after tensions rose over recent policy changes and API pricing. A Reddit admin acknowledged the strained relationship and outlined new weekly feedback sessions and other outreach efforts to repair ties. However, moderators remain skeptical of Reddit’s efforts given mixed results from past...

otter,

Yea I’m trying to get a few Lemmy communities running but I’m planning to leave the mod teams once they get going and more experienced people join. A few seem ready for that already

I don’t think the vast majority of mods are in it for the power lol

otter,

It’s gotten a lot better in a few weeks.

There’s a lot that can be improved, and people are working on it. It just needs more time as things settle

otter,

I think you can use the remindme bot on mastodon, although I’ll have to check the syntax. Saw someone use it in another thread

I also like the smaller communities in some cases. It’s a lot easier to participate and have replies to your questions/comments.

For a few communities though they’re still too small to be sustainable and useful. Need more time for those ones. Say LegalAdvice, communities for sales / discounts, or local ones for schools and cities.

otter,

This entire comment almost perfectly describes my experience. I’ve dropped a lot of my other accounts and only really use one or two for school/local stuff

Any good legal related communities popping up yet? I liked reading legalAdvice and was waiting for something like that here

otter,

Is there an equivalent Lemmy/Kbin community for that sub and others like it yet? I’m not really getting anything on my searches

otter,

I can do that lol, although I’m trying to get a few going now myself so I might focus on those for now.

Also like the other person said, its great when the mods are knowledgeable/ passionate about the topic. I can make a community or help moderate, but I’d prefer if someone more experienced with a certain topic would take the lead.

otter,

Another important thing to consider is governance and privacy/security. You’re trusting the admins to not missuse your data, to not read your messages, and that they agree with you on how federation should work (ex. Who they choose to federate / defederate with). There’s also the side of donations and how upfront they are about costs, where they choose to store your data, etc.

If an instance is being run transparently like a non profit, with good governance and regular updates, then that’s amazing. Not all instances can do that

otter,

Signal seems to cover everything that snapchat does? Other than the Discover content, which I never use

otter,

Ah I didn’t read that properly

Signal is the closest privacy / security respecting alternative to snapchat that I’ve found but no it isn’t federated.
