New roof installed, including racoon damage repair and prevention. Wire mesh installed to help keep them out and other measures taken. New fascia installed with wire backing.

At one corner, there was even a hole where they tore through to make an entry.

Racoon remediation and prevention added around $2000 to the job.

Feel better it's done and esp. more secure in the war of the racoons.

I guess what hurts the most is 15 years ago before my health turned, I could have done the job for the cost of materials and a couple helpers.

We live next to an abandoned house and it was full of racoons until distemper hit them.

As sad as it is, it greatly helped us in our battle against them.

For a while, we were catching 1 racoon every couple days.

There is no treatment for distemper. It's an extremely fatal illness. Euthanasia is the humane treatment for distemper. Wild animal distemper spread to dogs bad.

Once the wildlife service verified it was distemper, we let everyone in our small community know since racoons go in yards and on porches.

Oh, we had 3 large racoons attempt to get in the roof last night but left disappointed after a few minutes and went to the abandoned house next door.

We hope the repairs and extra work done will drive them off.

Racoons are known to move on quickly if they have to put too much effort into living their gilded wild lifestyle. They are smart thieves and not laborers. Lazy when they can be. ;)

There is a vaccine dogs can get before they catch it but once they get it, it's all about over. you make them comfortable and give them supportive care but outlook is poor.

There is no vaccine currently available to wildlife

We had the privilege of living almost twenty years on the side of the Smoky Mountains that hadn't been commercialized yet. The only tourists were whitewater rafters and hikers.

It is a beautiful place.

It was nice. When circumstances had us moving back Southwestern Ohio, it did not suit us, and when the time was right, we moved over an hour east to .

Same mountain range and lifestyle we had there. We live on the edge of the Ohio River and the mountains, less humidity than the Smoky Mountains, too.

Almost heaven.
