pete_the_cat,

I find it hilarious that they’re like “It’s 14F! Break out the shorts and T-shirts!” Meanwhile anyone anywhere else (except the Arctic regions) is like “This is pretty fucking cold”.

pete_the_cat,

Yeah I know what you mean. I’m from the North East US and it gets pretty damn humid here (somehow it’s been more humid than places with a tropical climate like Miami, Florida), which extends into the winter. The high humidity, combined with low temperatures (0-35F, not including wind chill) and moderate winds means a damn cold winter.

I was out in Denver, Colorado a few years ago during the late fall, early winter. They had a freak snowstorm which dropped their temperature from like 65F to 25F over night. I didn’t know what to bring so I brought all my winter gear. I got there and was like “This is nothing!” because the humidity was low. I was outside in jeans and a heavy/double lined hoodie and was fine. Normally in NYC I’d be wearing an Arctic level jacket due to the wind and humidity.

My buddy was in the army and stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After being there for a year he came home for Christmas and showed up at my house in shorts, sandals, and a hoodie. It was like 30F, he said it felt like summer to him 😂

pete_the_cat,

From your description, it sounds like it could be Matt from Demolition Ranch. He’s down in Texas somewhere and he’s a Large Animal Veterinarian. I’ve never heard this story though.

pete_the_cat,

I was gonna say “600? Those are rookie numbers! I have 1400+ in Skyrim”

pete_the_cat, (edited )

They did a pretty good job fixing it up… but it also took like 4-5 years. Some things I’m like “it took at least 5 years for you to think of implementing this??”

Edit: 5 years meaning it should have been added during the initial development.

pete_the_cat,

5 years meaning “from the start of development”. A lot of these things should have been there from the beginning.

pete_the_cat,

I think you mean Hannah Montana Linux.

pete_the_cat,

I was gonna say “has no one in here heard of alien?”. I’ve rarely ever had to use it… because I use Arch.

pete_the_cat,

Well it does technically, the issue we’re talking about is how it’s packaged, one you extract the package the software will work just the same (assuming there aren’t any version mismatches between kernel modules). DEBs (Debian based distros) and RPMs (RedHat based distros) are the two biggest package formats, the next common format is a tar ball.

pete_the_cat,

Yeah, Valve sucks with the “we’re not rewriting this for 64 bit because there’s no benefit” stance. It’s a pain in the ass to use on Linux because you have to have the 32 bit counterpart of everything it uses alongside the 64 bit counterpart that literally everything else uses. You would think they would finally decide to rewrite it since they’re a major Linux contributor, and their handheld runs Linux.

pete_the_cat,

Nice, a lot of the games work out of the box with the Linux client, you just need to enable support for unsupported games for Proton on the Steam settings.

pete_the_cat,

pete_the_cat,

pete_the_cat,

Bitte? 🥺

pete_the_cat,

Even though I studied German for years idioms and sentence structure still throw me off. I tried to translate that looking up only the words I didn’t remember and figured “dein Scheiss Fahrrad” was “your shit bike” and Kriegen is to catch (or get I guess in this context), so I was like “No, you catch your shit bike not back” doesn’t make sense grammatically in English, so I put it into Google Translate and it translated it as “No, you won’t get your damn bike back”. Maybe it’s because I learned High German and only ever used it in formal settings 95% of the time but it still throws me off, I have a hell of a time trying to understand spoken German because I don’t have the time to parse it mentally most of the time.

pete_the_cat,

Well to be fair, even native English speakers have problems with English. It’s a clusterfuck of a language. Learning German made me realize that more than I already did.

pete_the_cat,

Sound like Yoda, you do. Hmmm.

pete_the_cat,

Ah thanks, I didn’t no that.

pete_the_cat,

Probably because of the word “virgin”

Also I was thinking more about “Like a surgeon” which is Weird Al’s parody

pete_the_cat,

Beautiful
