phoenixz,

“if we are not allowed to blatantly commit crimes then we’ll try to kill all of you”

Gotta love a good Republican

phoenixz, (edited )

Doesn’t that go against separation of church and state, and if this is government pushed, isn’t this a first amendment violation?

phoenixz,

Because…? I’ve used Linux on desktop for over 20 years now. Yes. I have a multi monitor (3 monitors) setup with a cool looking 3d desktop (bling mostly to show off, make people come for the bling, stay for the awesome computer experience) and I’ve loved every minute of it.

Every single time I see another one of these posts I tell people to come to Linux, we got cookies

phoenixz,

You sort of missed the point where Linux gives you freedom. Linux is built for users, windows is built for marketing, and it shows. It makes Linux nice for end users and it makes windows nice for the marketing department, sales and the share holders.

Windows SUCKS in it’s daily use and even after all these years it’s still a Swiss cheese security wise. Yes, people would face issues with Linux too. Of course they will. But it will be a while different class of issues, not caused by a “fuck the user” attitude like Microsoft has it, but issues that will be solved because on Linux people actual care.

phoenixz,

Meaning? That you need to update software? Of course you do. Even on Linux. But when you do you don’t have to reboot, for example. Minor difference caused by a smart filesystem versus whatever the fuck windows uses these days.

phoenixz,

I do.

I help people with Linux wherever I can.

I make companies use Linux. My own company uses Linux everywhere, it was built in from the start.

What you’re saying is a chicken and egg problem. Companies would love to give support go Linux users but then they need Linux users…

phoenixz,

And all of that can be done with Linux.

One large reason why this is still done so little is Microsoft marketing. Oh I’ll admit, Microsoft is kickass at marketing. As bad as their software sucked and keeps sucking, their marketing is awesome and well funded. Linux doesn’t have anything that compares but it’s own good name.

Microsoft basically lies, cheats, pressures, whatever is needed so that people are locked into their software.

Fuck. Everything. About Microsoft.

phoenixz,

Did I say that?

phoenixz, (edited )

How else? How about not? You simply don’t because you can’t. Barring some weird exceptions, no country will be able to be carbon neutral in 10 years, let alone the entire world.

Yes we need to do loads of work, and yes, nuclear will form a huge part because we don’t have another choice. Nuclear will cause CO2 too, yes, during building mostly and nothing near what coal or similar plants do.

I’m simply saying we can (and must) do nuclear next to solar and wind.

Either way it doesn’t matter since entieht you nor I make those decisions and those that do mostly don’t give a shit as long as they get their paycheck

Edit: you want to make a real change?

Increase taxes on carbon fuels significantly every year. Prohibit the construction and sale of useless throwaway products like fashion that lasts 3 wears until it breaks, phones that will work for only 1-2 years. Invest heavily in improving recycling so that we can recycle everything. Invest in alternative nuclear fuels like thorium so that more countries can go nuclear without having to worry about bombs. Stop the "delivery in one day! " economy, which basically requires alAmazon to be destroyed . Redesign American continent cities completely to no longer be car dependent so that people can walk and cycle for 95% of their needs and use public transportation or shared cars for the rest.

Those are some insane but required solutions if we want to stop climate change.

Car dependent cities are unsustainable, financially and environmentally. Our throwaway economy is unsustainable. Our dependency on fossil fuels in unsustainable

phoenixz,

Elon Musk is a scammer. He’s good at that and it’s the only thing he’s good at

Can we go now and talk about technology,?

phoenixz,

Attent at destroying the Internet and counting.

They only need to succeed big once or small a couple of times. They already succeeded small big many times so yeah. Enjoy the internet while it lasts, 5 years from now it will be unrecognizeable and a fraction of what we have now.

But at least the kids are safe because THAT is why we are doing this, right? RIGHT?

phoenixz,

Mostly, people don’t know. They get annoyed but don’t know that windows is the root cause of those annoyances.

phoenixz,

What you’re saying is something that should be fixed by responsive design and ensuring that your required fonts can be downloaded though your page (source: I built (for over 20 years) and build web page systems myself for a living). Anti aliasing should not cause your webpage to be rendered wrong in any way. Maybe it looks nicer or not, but your layout should not be messed up over that.

Either way, websites these days just send the fonts they want. Don’t start about efficiency on that, people seem not to care anyway, but it does all work. Also on Linux.

I’ve had a Linux only desktop for the last 20 years and I’ve never had issues with any websites

phoenixz,

Interesting. This sounds similar like the company I’m working at right now. They too have all windows desktop apps and I’m working on porting it all to web apps that simply work on whatever you want to use. Granted, this will take (current estimate) a year or 2-3 if I’m doing it all by myself, but then they’ll have an entirely new platform that is a bazillion times better than they have now and it will work with Linux without a hitch.

I guess the solution there is to just start, somewhere anywhere.

I built my own framework for this, specialized to build web forms and handle tables easily so with this I can rebuild all their required functionalities quite fast

phoenixz,

Nothing is black and white but in windows vs Linux it’s simple: you want to get your computer back for just you? You want to do whatever the hell you need to do? Switch to Linux and be happy

phoenixz,

It is super easy to install it’s super easy to use. Finding replacements for software in Oss products may take a little time but I’ve found everything I need since 20 years ago. Today nearly everything is out there .

phoenixz,

Do you know what’s funny though?

My company for the moment still uses teams. I’ll get that fixed soon. But while using teams, teams runs in chrome on my Linux box. That still works because good luck fucking around with that in Linux Ms… So this is not a technical requirement, it’s a corporate and marketing requirement.

Fuck Microsoft, switch to Linux

phoenixz,

Tried the Linux app. It’s about as stable as a methhead junkie and it was simply unusable. The browser version is damn near unusable as well but at least I manage to sometimes use it, sometimes answer a call etc… it’s hilariously bad but at least it starts.

Seriously Microsoft, what is it with MS web pages not understanding that people might shudder open up two tabs? I open a second tab for teams and all hell breaks lose.

This is something indonwith all types of web pages without problem. Only Mickeysoft teams fucks it up just like all web pages on Microsoft.

phoenixz,

We’ll see

phoenixz,

Point is that young people cause disproportionally more accidents due to lack of experience driving, lack of experience living, lack of knowledge, and lack or responsibility

phoenixz,

Generally speaking, people get more responsible when they get older. Yes of course there are exceptions, some people bever grow up, but seriously… Giving a 16 year old a sports car? Are they nuts?

phoenixz,

That is an Americas problem. All the cities there are very badly designed, just for cars. In Europe (holy hell, the Netherlands) you can get everywhere by bike or public transportation or just plain walking and it’s awesome. In the US things are the way they are because of bad city design and lack of any public transportation.

Yes, minimum driving age should be 18 and even then require adult supervision.

phoenixz,

Yes.

8 year olds also need to go to school, are we going to put those in cars too?

phoenixz,

I’d recommend Kubuntu. Been using it for ages. I’ve been on Linux desktop for 20 years now and kubuntu is by far my favorite. It had the KDE desktop (on Linux you have different desktop brands) and KDE is by far the most powerful, prettiest, and most windows like. See it as windows desktop on steroids.

Ubuntu (on which kubuntu is based) also has a nice way of how it manages the files though that is more a oeiet user thing.

Can’t recommend Kubuntu enough

phoenixz,

It was alret horrible at 95. I used windows for about a good 2 years in my life. I’ve been on Amiga is before, Unix osses for a while and over 21 years now on Linux. Windows, any version, compared to any of those is a joke
