@yaxu @patternclubsheffield cheers! based in manchester for a while so yep, am in sheffield much more regularly for 65 duties. subject to the collapsing public transport infrastructure anyway... i'd be happy to come and drop confused code at a pattern club one day!

polinski,
@polinski@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@yaxu @patternclubsheffield yeah, could be! what's the vibe, is it strictly live-coding/algorave or whatever works?

polinski,
@polinski@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@yaxu @patternclubsheffield oh forgot to reply to this... yeah i'm up for it! no idea what i'm gonna do. how long would the set need to be?

@PaulGrahamRaven Wow, 'The Extinction Surge' should be the name of your new breakcore-drone band and also hopefully how future historians will refer to the forthcoming World Revolution.

looks like @PaulGrahamRaven is trying to get a ‘posts by people called paul’ infinite feedback loop going by posting about my post, so here i am duly posting about his post about my post // https://www.velcro-city.co.uk/merciful-release-navel-gaze-blogday-blahblahblah/

At any point in the last 25 years (or until the internet destroyed magazines anyway) you could have picked up a copy of Computer Music or Future Music or whatever, and the cover CD would literally contain thousands of royalty free loops that would be better than anything heard in this video.

From a Kotaku interview with the developer of Pacific Drive (which is brilliant btw. you should check it out) https://kotaku.com/pacific-drive-steam-ps5-survival-crafting-sim-1851282916

(Edit: It's not the review. You still should play the game!)

polinski,

@tante it is, thanks. sometimes i feel that trying to defend the distinction between A.I. junk and more carefully considered generative systems is too niche, too trivial and easy to be misunderstood.

but on the other hand, when used creatively and uncynically, generative/procedural tool can help to explore the edges of how your art has been commodified, and then push against those forms.

I've got some new music/weird things on the horizon — I haven't really managed to get into posting here regularly (I regularly lurk tho!), so I've decided to give doing a newsletter/blog a go, just like back in the old days. The web needs more blogs! They are
more my pace. And so I present to you: The Komoy Noise Research Unit. // A place for notes, plans, patches, polemic and confusion. https://knru.polin.ski // First dispatch due tomorrow. What have you got to lose?

Btw. If you liked this post about generative "AI" maybe subscribe to their patreon. Also: if you don't know it, check out their music. The album "Wild Light" is a great start.

New record! Out today. It is a score I wrote ten years ago and then, somehow, a decade went by before I got around to releasing it. But it's here now. Full of sad pianos and tape hiss.

Streamable/buyable on Bandcamp, at least for as long as it doesn't become morally unacceptable to keep hosting music on that platform.

My son broke his first guitar string last night. Replaced them with a set I once found tidying up after a 65daysofstatic gig, I think he was pretty chuffed. I owe you one @polinski ;)

polinski,
@polinski@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@yaxu nice! the question is, whose strings did get? will he inherit joe’s mighty, high fidelity riff skillz? or my unsubtle powerchord tactics? it’s quite a gamble.

@tante@tldr.nettime.org avatar

I like Unity's Mathf.SmoothDamp, but anyone know fun alternatives that do the same thing but with different acceleration/deceleration characteristics (needs to be smooth tho)? Having more to choose between could be useful!

Edit: I'm not looking for an interpolation function using a time value like a lerp or a curve. I'm looking for something that's only aware of current value, speed, and target, like Mathf.SmoothDamp

polinski,
@polinski@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Nifflas ah. not sure then, soz!
