Since kicking a three-decade nicotine jones at the start of this year, my coffee consumption has gone absolutely batshit crazy. I used to think two cups a day was a heavy load, but I'm somewhat shocked to realise I've just had my fifth at 14:30... 😬

Just discovered that the Zotero browser plugin treats tweets as belonging to the category of "forum posts", which is (however unintentionally?) a masterful bit of low-key shade-throwing

@Loukas Thanks! Yah, that's my blog. The Starmer point was meant more as illustration, really. The question of what it means for me to say I am a leftist is what's exercising me right now---because while I don't see what I believe in reflected in Starmer's project, I am increasingly finding I don't see it in the more frantically doctrinaire leftisms of the moment, either.

No, you just bought some early-access cyberpunk heist game on Steam because it was on offer and you thought it might be a laugh

PaulGrahamRaven,
@PaulGrahamRaven@assemblag.es avatar

@ahmetasabanci CyberKnights: Flashpoint. It's still a bit janky in places, though it's hard for me to tell how much of the problem is rooted in my utter lack of experience with stealth-based games.

PaulGrahamRaven,
@PaulGrahamRaven@assemblag.es avatar

@ahmetasabanci Well, maybe wait for it to be on offer; I caught it yesterday just a few hours from the end of a 25% discount, and ~20euro seems reasonable. I mean, that's the price of a couple of cinema tickets, so if I get a handful of evenings of diversion out of it, I'm already over the odds. As for the stealth, I figure it might make a change from the CRPG hack'n'slash which has been most of my gaming recently... something a bit more mindful and patient, you know?

PaulGrahamRaven,
@PaulGrahamRaven@assemblag.es avatar

@ahmetasabanci (The hacking mechanic looks quite fun, and people are complaining it's hard and distracting in the discussion board, which I take to mean it's significantly more than cosmetic. But I suck so much at the base sneak'n'steal'n'shoot stuff that I haven't actually managed to try it yet... )

PaulGrahamRaven,
@PaulGrahamRaven@assemblag.es avatar

@TreseBrothers @ahmetasabanci Thanks for the invite! Unfortunately I have the sort of mind that finds Discord an unnavigable nightmare, so I'll just have to learn by blundering through and making mistakes... a pattern which has characterised most of my life at this point. :)

(In the meantime, if you find yourself in need of another writer, give me a shout? I'd like an opportunity to work with game designers... )

PaulGrahamRaven,
@PaulGrahamRaven@assemblag.es avatar

@ahmetasabanci In the meantime, it's not at all the same sort of thing, but Citizen Sleeper is currently half price, and comes with my very strongest recommendation: really excellent writing, on a level with that of Pentiment. (It's also a smaller game, but that's forgivable for a one-person studio!)

PaulGrahamRaven,
@PaulGrahamRaven@assemblag.es avatar

@sparks I'm in no place to judge it as a contribution to the genre; I'm totally new to stealth games. Which is why it's kicking my arse so thoroughly, even on the very weakest of difficulties... :)

(Are they friends of yours? Perhaps I should have guessed, given the whole grimdark-cyberBoston setting... )

So look, on a lot of levels I might agree with you that protesting Israel's participation in Eurovision is futile at best, and maybe even counterproductive within that limited context, too. But it bears noting that the protests in Malmö are only "about" Eurovision in the sense that UK protests in 2012 were "about" the Olympics. There are a lot of other issues in play, not least of which is the militarisation of the city, and the long-haul persecution of minorities by the cops and the city.

PaulGrahamRaven,
@PaulGrahamRaven@assemblag.es avatar

It's very rare I get to play this card, but nonetheless: if you don't live here, maybe keep a leash on your assumptions and judgements, hmm?
