I gather some server is for some arcane reason censoring naughty words to protect our delicate sensibilities. Is it on my end, on lemmy.ml? Is it the server people are posting from? Is it something happening in the federation? Is it the Romulans?
Bacon got REALLY expensive the year before I left the chef life for the wide world of food sales. I ended up running this as a special on the bars but it’s become a staple for me whenever I get the craving....
It’s never too late to make a change. Be the you that you want to be but don’t judge your worth against other people’s achievements.
Set a goal for yourself. Learn Japanese, release an app, cure cancer, whatever you want and aim for it on your terms. But be realistic and if needs be set a small goal first and work your way up.
I’m just curious what you folks think. The whole idea of the Fediverse seems to go against everything Meta has stops for with their existing platforms (Facebook and Instagram)....
Good call. I think within my first day or two here some idiot from exploding heads was commenting on here about being banned by beehaw and just acting like a complete tool. We’re better off without them.
"The one new rule that will be strictly enforced is that instead of each post beginning with "SLPT", every post must now begin with "Spez is a greedy little pig boy""
Christian's words were it would be a "gargantuan" effort. From what he's said in interviews / posts etc. I'm not sure he actually wants to rebuild it for another service. It's a shame as it's a fantastic app, but every endpoint for every action would need to be re-written, tested etc. and of course, Lemmy and Reddit don't always have like for like feature sets anyway, and the APIs could be vastly different. Essentially he'd be re-building the app from scratch.
I am theoretically switching over from Reddit to Lemmy. Finding myself spending more time on Lemmy than on Reddit. Maybe it's because I am limited to using the desktop and can't aimlessly browse Reddit on my iPhone. Of late, the only subreddits I cared for were on sports and their matchday threads and r/watches. I found myself...
The apps currently in beta seem to be getting updated every day or so with improvements. I’m posting this using Memmy and it’s working fairly well. Both Memmy and Mlem need a bit more work before they’re ready to go to general release imho but the devs are doing great work.
I don’t think it will be long before we have fully- functional apps in the App Store.
Thanks to a comment by @LargeHardonCollider , I checked and saw that 'Federation debugging' mode was enabled. I had enabled that when the server just started (less than 3 weeks ago) and I had an issue with federation....
Edit: It seems like there's enough people that would prefer this didn't happen for some pretty good reasons. For that reason, I'm not going to move forward with this idea....
I honestly think Lemmy should not just be a clone of Reddit (either in terms of trying to match functionality exactly or filling it up with content from Reddit).
I get where you’re coming from in terms of trying to bolster the amount of content but truly I think Lemmy will do just fine with original content.
Apart from anything else, imho the quality of posts here on Lemmy that I’ve seen so far are, generally, quite good. Reddit seems to have been going downhill and I wouldn’t be surprised if the quality on Reddit gets worse following the current issues.
As someone else mentioned, maybe an instance or community could host that content but I think it would be important that users would be able to block it if they don’t want to see it.
So after we've extended the virtual cloud server twice, we're at the max for the current configuration. And with this crazy growth (almost 12k users!!) even now the server is more and more reaching capacity....

I decided to spin up Home Assistant on a VM on my server yesterday, and so far I’m not having much luck getting to to much that is actually useful....

From Fife so these are rolls. Roll on sausage, roll on bacon etc. Heard them called different things in different parts of UK.
What reason could Zuckerberg and Meta possibly have for wanting to create a federated social media site?

Lemmy.world Admin Response to Defederation from Exploding Heads
We're closing this thread. Everything that could be said has been said. Thank you...

Hey all,...
[META] reddits r/shittylifeprotips is now without rules and posting porn is being encouraged to make reddit less desirable to advertisers.
Spez is a greedy little pig boy
I want to debunk Reddit's claims, and talk about their unwillingness to work with developers, moderators, and the larger community, as well as say thank you for all the support (old.reddit.com)
