Behind the scenes of my involvement with the Betasquad vs AMP charity football match at Selhurst Park this weekend.
Our @southpointfilms trailer was hired to accommodate three chase editors and myself as a supporting GFX op. I also helped with rigging and de-rigging, including setting up three PTZs for behind the scenes changing room and tunnel footage.
Such a fun job!
(The stream itself racked up 5.8 million YouTube views in 24 hours!)
Visited my local 🍎 Store to try the new iPad Pros. They’re nice!
But I can’t justify upgrading my 2018 11”. The new model is much thinner, but the thickness and weight of my iPad aren’t issues for me. (At least not when it’s naked. The Smart Keyboard is hefty, but the new models are still heavy in that combo.)
The iPadOS software story at WWDC is going to be interesting. Because the only thing that really makes new iPad hardware desirable is the software it can run; which the older ones can’t.
Considering upgrading my 2018 11” iPad Pro, which I bought in 2020. I’d downgrade from 512GB to 256GB of storage as I’m barely scratching it currently.
If I go for the new Pro it’s an investment of over £1000 as I’ll need new accessories. 🤑
However, iPad Air would be £600 with trade in, and I could keep my Magic Keyboard. But not my pencil. And I’d lose Face ID, ProMotion and a bit of screen size. (I think.) Feels like a downgrade.
@matt this is my worry. The new Airs seem like the ideal upgrade path for me, but I’ve got a few 4th gen Airs at work and they’re just not as nice as my older Pro. I know I’d feel the same as you, even if it’s only a subtle difference.
@rowan_johnson Yup, subtle but you notice. For my part, I went from an M1 Pro to an M1 Air and while I logically know they’re equally fast, things feel slower since the animations are all more stuttery.
I wouldn’t print this, but seeing these sorts of mad 3D prints definitely makes me want to buy a printer. (But I understand it’s still quite tricky doing it properly?) https://rivals.space/@emilweth/112402209773898188
@rowan_johnson Man, I’m in the same boat but just can’t justofy the cost (and space it would take up), but a printing company reached out to me a year ago asking if I’d like to review their new printer. I jumped on it and then they just ghosted me 🥲
Canon recently asked me to present a tutorial about their PTZ range of cameras. It’s now live on their YouTube channel. 📺
If you’re interested in #VideoProduction and #LiveStreaming, and you want to know more about these cameras, give it a watch. PTZs are very much the future (but also the present) of professional video!
If you need to quickly visualise some scenes for a video to give your client / crew an idea of what you’re trying to achieve with your shoot, this GPT should help.
By default, all images are created in 16:9 with a realistic art style. If you have any suggestions for improvements, please let me know!
As a non-American, it’s mildly funny hearing people declare the Vision Pro a flop. The thing hasn’t even finished launching. (It’s still not available anywhere but the US right now!)
That said, it does seem like it’s been barely talked about since the launch fortnight. (At least positively.)
I’m curious what people who’ve bought one are actively using it for, now that we’re out of the novelty zone…
@matt it’ll be interesting to see if things gets a bit more lively when the VP comes to other markets; when more indie devs play with it and bigger companies can better justify supporting it.
For all we know it might find a super active and keen user base in an unexpected country that sparks more life into the platform.
@rowan_johnson Potentially! Although this isn't the benefit of the doubt I feel like we give other products. If you're not getting traction in the richest market in the world, I don't know if I'd bet a lot on somewhere else having a markedly more willing population 😬
The railways in Britain are dire. A tree falls down near Woking and the entire rail network heading South East from London grinds to a halt. Been waiting for a train from Waterloo since 2pm. This is ridiculous.
Now I know why I drive. It’s hard work, but it’s more reliable. (And far cheaper!)
@andycarolan absolutely! It would be easy to shrug off the unreliability if it was cheap. But my peak return today was £111 from Southampton suburbs to London Waterloo.
