I’m not American but The Inflation Reduction Act is the biggest climate bill that’s been passed ever. It has plenty of flaws, but it also has a lot of long term positive consequences, that can’t be easily undone when the administration changes.

I think steam deck is a pretty good choice from that perspective.

  1. There is little vendor lock in, you could upgrade from a deck to a competitor and so long as it uses steam you won’t really be missing out on anything
  2. Valve has gone in pretty hard on repairability. so while it may become obsolete (and I don’t think it will for a while, Moores law isn’t what it used to be) it should still be able to run very far down the line.
  3. The steam controller and ecosystem planned around it was a financial failure. While there were a hunch of enthusiasts into the steam controller (myself included) it never gained mainstream appeal. The steam machine that it was meant to synergize with did even worse. Otoh the valve index did pretty well and still is quite a popular pick if you wanna get into vr today despite being 5 yrs old, while vr wasnt as successful as i think some wanted (I blame meta for that!) It did carve out a niche for valve that helos there long term plans. The steam deck has been a run away success and also brings a big boost to a lot of valves long term strategies (decoupling from windows, competing with consoles, giving people a reason to stay on steam), and its already seen a refresh. I would be very surprised to not see a steamdeck 2, although it may be a while (valve has stated as much, because they want to make it easy for devs to target steam deck for recommended specs)

I definitely agree on armour (I think they could 2x the differences between armour and I would still barely notice), and that planets could use some variety but I appreciate the weakness of guns, it’s what makes the game unique, I think the game is at it’s best when you kill a massive number of enemies and your whole team in a massive explosion, guns being strong would reduce the amount of FF and make FF incidents feel way more personal.

I think there is still a lot of fertile ground in the game, and I hope the Sony stuff doesn’t cause too much bitch eating crackers syndrome.

Nothing with a recent AMD gfx Card or APU will officially support S3, and I think Nvidia is the same. Just because it isn’t supported doesn’t mean they’ll intentionally break anything, but over time you’ll have more and more bugs related to it and one day it will break and never be fixed.

Personally I use S4 (hibernate) more or less exclusively.

The fix would be to do a regression pass (or increase how thorough an existing pass is) for each release, I personally prefer that they release fast and break stuff than add a week or two delay to every patch. At least for now.

There was a guy in my town that 3d printed these things that release the air out of the tires. That means if you get caught you get a misdemeanor mischief charge and not a vandalism.

I’m disappointed. Thirpy is a bit of a killer for me, I think it undermines any competitiveness of the game and frankly just doesn’t feel good in PvP. It also seems to be leaning into the more MOBA side of things. This seems to be the direction a lot of team shooters go, but personally I like the more arena shooter style big fights, I greatly dislike the concept of lanes.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the game won’t be good, but it really doesn’t look like something I personally will enjoy.

Crunch is just a reality of any SW released on a schedule. When it’s fairly compensated, relatively rare and still respects the occasional hard no then I don’t think it’s particularly bad. There are times I push for OT in my work so that I can rack up some extra vacation for later in the year when I want it more.
