Install some bridges. I've managed to remove all those third party chat apps from my devices and just use Matrix to chat to everyone whether they're on Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, IRC, etc.

I really don't like Meta but we should encourage the use of open protocols, regardless of who uses them.

Not sure about unique but The Bloomsbury Club is excellent.

You should also check out the Experimental Cocktail Club in Chinatown.

If you're after weird/science-like cocktails, The Alchemist is fun.

I bridge WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and Slack using Matrix.

Works extremely well for me.

Effectively it's a plugin to the Matrix server instance that acts like a client to the remote network. You can then interact with users on the remote networks like they're local to yours.

Sort of like interacting with users on Kbin or Mastodon on, say, lemmy.world.

It allows me to have, for example, a chat group with people on disparate networks. i.e. a "room" with users from Signal, WhatsApp and Slack having a discussion and everyone just chats without having to worry about who is where or using whichever network.

Matrix is an open protocol that is federated and end-to-end encrypted. It's current main use case is instant messaging but can be used for all sorts of things.

Yep. There's a whole lot of protocols/networks that you can bridge. They're just the ones I use.

Here's a list: https://matrix.org/ecosystem/bridges/

That's just the tip of the iceberg.

As Matrix is just a protocol you can write your own applications using it as a backend.

People have written browser extensions that leverage it's capabilities; It can be used as the commenting mechanism for websites; the Matrix people have even used it to power an entire 3D world.

VPS backup?

I've returned after taking into consideration everyone's advice on what I should do with my basic VPS and.....listened to none of it for reasons. Well, I had a good reason. I wanted to diversify my internet consumption with all this Reddit API mess and have gone back in part to RSS. In that vein I have stood up Minflux and...

Don't we already have that in the form of PKI? (Think TLS certificates, PGP/GPG keys, SSH keys, et al)

If someone's posts, articles, videos, interview recordings, etc. were signed with the author's private key, then we could all verify it with their public key.

Of course, there's a technical barrier to overcome but I imagine it would be the same with whatever Obama's proposing here.

I was experiencing something very similar. I just unsubscribed and re-subscribed to a lemmy.ml community and the spice started to flow.

Google Pixel with GrapheneOS or CalyxOS.

Does anyone think that the Fediverse would make a much better next phase for the web then all of this Metaverse bull?

I'd much rather see sites like Lemmy, PeerTube, and Mastodon see widespread adoption then the dystopian cyberpunk fever dream in the head of Zuckerburg. Did you not read the novel dude? It's a freaking warning! That's like Jeff Bezos reading Fahrenheit 451 and going "holy crap dude, gotta make that a reality like, yesterday!" I...

I say keep it distinct.

Reddit has had its day.

You can have your 2FA codes in BitWarden.

People say it defeats the purpose of 2FA but each to their own.

Gotta drop the car off for a service (during rush hour) and pick it up later this afternoon (during rush hour).

Well, engagement rings. Wedding rings are typically plain metal such as platinum, gold or silver.

But pasta is Italian (alright, it's Chinese (props to Messrs. Polo)) and they pronounce it the Australian way.

Disclosure: I grew up in Australia but live here now.
