Contemporary Israeli Zionism is an extreme form of "well you did it, why can't we?" the more I think about it.

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@jalcine Once you build your Zion, it’s easy for it to be corrupted by nationalism.

🤞🏻 Ceasefire in Gaza

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

Well shit…

This deal included a ceasefire, path to more lasting peace, a path to humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and release of all hostages.

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@aires It’s still disappointing…

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

To think we were so dang close to lasting peace and a Palestinian state in 1995 under Israeli PM Rabin. Then he was assassinated in a successful effort to disrupt the formation of a free Palestine.

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@freakazoid it was also politically convenient for the now right wing Israeli gov to support Hamas and fracture political unity between Gaza and the West Bank.

Cursed idea: a monospace font that uses contextual alternates for straight quotation marks ("" and '') and makes them to look like curly ones (“” and ‘’).

Also, programming languages should start allowing curly quotation marks anywhere they allow regular ones.

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@kizu I’ve work on writing these OT features a long time ago and the struggle is when you get into how different languages use quotes differently. Pretty trivial to do it for English but difficult to write OT features for all the things.

Also I like using curly quotes in my text and not having those messing with my strings. It’s nice that curly and straight quotes behave differently so I can use them to serve different functions.

Getting a production run or a product you designed from a factory is 5x more satisfying than launching a website. This feels awesome and I’m so excited to share.

Here is a preview of the first product I designed for Darden Studio: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C56gBN_vB8e/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Home Depot logistics makes zero sense. I place one order resulting in 25 deliveries of tiny pieces from 4 different stores. Half of it is 3 days late and 15% of it is badly damaged. Delivery drivers get paid about $20/order to deliver small parts that cost about $10.

I’m not great at business, but I know you need to be selling things for more than they cost to fulfill.

In UCLA, violence did break out but it was pro-Israeli zionist counter-protestors beating pro-Palestinian students and shooting fireworks at them.

cop pushes protester

The media: “The protests have turned violent”

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

All these videos are of cops violently breaking up peaceful protestors. Yet the headline accuses the protestors who are being violent.

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

Who is being violent here?

Seems like tenant rights should apply to college. Students live there yet they can be suspended and arrested in an instant, loosing their housing in the process?

Also the optics of mimicking the behavior of moving Palestinians out of their homes to make way for Israeli settlements...

Dear social media companies: people show up for their friends, not “creators”.

I get it, creator content performs well and is easy to sell ads against. But as soon as people find a new spot to hang with their friends, they will leave.

Safari is a perfectly fine browser. I don’t understand why it gets so much hate.

#Apple #Safari #browser #webdev #webdevelopment #webdesign

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@benbloodworth Because devs don’t test for it until the very end when it’s hard to make changes to their codebase to optimize for it.

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@oobleck @benbloodworth It’s gotten a lot better recently. Safari’s web compatibility testing results have been shooting up faster than any other browser in the past couple years, largely thanks to Jen Simmons’ leadership. Nicole Sullivan (formally Chrome lead) just joined.

But also yes, I still run into stray bugs, regressions, and a few missing features from time to time.

BUT it has gotten significantly better.

My business partner @megnotarte and I published the first in a three-part series about an AI Ethical Framework we intend use at @cloudfour to evaluate whether AI in our work is consistent with our values or not.

We begin with three things we agree on.
https://cloudfour.com/thinks/ai-ethical-framework-three-things-we-agree-on/

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@grigs Love this. For your questions at the end, those could be asked of anything we create and are not limited to AI. I don’t say this to minimize the questions. They are important. I say this so we can reference other times we as a society needed to ask these questions. Inflection points in our society and how we do work. The industrial revolution, globalization, slavery, etc.

scott,
@scott@typetura.social avatar

@grigs All of these inflection points have made an indelible mark on our society, and I think AI is in the process of making its mark. I’m excited to read more of what you’re writing. I see AI as similar to the industrial revolution. But we need to protect the world and all the workers from catastrophe like The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.
