Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone (www.theverge.com)

Microsoft is starting to enable ads inside the Start menu on Windows 11 for all users. After testing these briefly with Windows Insiders earlier this month, Microsoft has started to distribute update KB5036980 to Windows 11 users this week, which includes “recommendations” for apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu....

scottywh,

Yeah… NT was hugely successful and it’s been the core of every Microsoft OS for over 20 years.

scottywh,

Smartphones are more responsible for the widespread distribution of misinformation than the internet itself.

Who am I posting/commenting as?

I’m writing this from the post page. Nothing here tells me who I’m signed in as. Same thing for comments. If I want to find out that answer, I have to back out all the way to the timeline. I wish when I was making additive actions like posting and commenting that I could see which account I have selected. “Posting as...

scottywh,

I’m about to eat my fourth or fifth McDonald’s free double cheeseburger so far of this month just because someone on the local baseball team got a double and they give away a free one in the app to anyone who claims it in the state the next day.

With promotions and deals (which are pretty much always going on) it’s actually tough to get cheaper than eating fast food a lot of the time.

scottywh,

Switching sucks but DST is better than Standard Time.

scottywh,

It’s easy, the good part is DST (which is what we’re currently in - Spring through Fall in the northern hemisphere).

scottywh,

Standard Time during that period is what’s depressing.

scottywh,

Sure there is… Coming home from work in the darkness is way worse than waking up in it.

scottywh,

I disagree.

Also, sunrise and sunset times vary depending on one’s location.

Daylight in the morning only serves to remind me (and people like me) that it’s being wasted and won’t be available when I have free time.

Deeply nested comments not showing up properly (ttrpg.network)

This old thing that sometimes happened in Sync for Reddit seems to happen again here, where comments are always indented even to the point of not rendering correctly because they reached the right border. If I’m remembering correctly, this was fixed by giving the user the option to “Load more comments” in the old app,...

scottywh,

Same here and it definitely doesn’t exhibit the described behavior.

scottywh,

It won’t be noticeable.

They only started doing “no antibiotics ever” in 2019 so this is basically only reverting back a change they just made a few years ago.

scottywh,

The article specifically said they’re only going to administer antibiotics to sick chickens and those in close proximity to sick chickens, not generally as a preventative.

scottywh,

Lol… I’ve only ever seen the Sacajawea coin in the US.

scottywh,

All the coins pictured here are $1 coins but the US absolutely has legal tender $.50 coins.

scottywh,

Cool. They’re still damn rare.

scottywh,

They’re not a small company but their locations do typically have a very small footprint compared to the typical US grocery store… Much lower square footage.

They’ve been in US markets for decades at this point. They just don’t have locations in every region of the US or so many locations even in the regions that they do exist as to be considered ubiquitous.

scottywh,

This article and, from the sounds of it, Biden’s interview from yesterday both sound like a great refute to trump’s putting down / making fun of Biden for “apologizing” for referring to the man as “an illegal”.

The Feds Are Coming for “Extremist” Gamers (theintercept.com)

Gaming companies are coordinating with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to root out so-called domestic violent extremist content, according to a new government report. Noting that mechanisms have been established with social media companies to police extremism, the report recommends that the national security agencies...
