I am not a designer (I think I'm actively bad at design even) so I don't mean to bash anyone, but as a user I find interfaces like this absolutely terrible:
It's so damned busy and distracting, where does the article stop/start? The article itself literally seems to stop at "Counting down from #100, here are the best sitcoms of all time." which is the clickbaity shit that gets you there in the first place. Where? Where is it? Can you find it? I can't.
@bkardell the MSN article design is such a hot mess and based on what I experienced while at Msft, you can't convince me it's not intentional to get people to accidentally click on any of those sponsored click bait links.
@bkardell I always struggle with these because they are a carousel. I don't have time to click through 100. Also on some articles, they put content behind a read more button that basically just reveals the rest of the article and I constantly miss that. It's not paywalled. Why is it necessary.
I got to try @jhey's Brick Yourself (https://brick-yourself.vercel.app/). I love that it nailed a Steel City shirt that I wasn't even wearing :) 🤘 Love it. Thanks @seaotta for reminding me of it.
@w3c update: it appears base.css failed to load with a 520. It's working fine now but you can duplicate if you delete base.css. Would you like me to still file an issue?
The last few months of uncertainty about what country I'll be living in and visa processes and moving my dog abroad have all been good and fun* but I'm finally settled and in need of a new job.
I bring 14 years of web design/UX and product management expertise to the table with a focus on developer experience & DevTools.
I'm open to FTE positions or freelance design projects.
I do things like website audits to show you where you can improve your experience & keep customers returning to your site.
Don't have a design? I can do that too. I've built sites from the ground up, from 0 to 1 and my product management experience means I see how the experience fits into the broader company vision.
@Chris I just drew a rectangle with the selection tool around the garbage can, typed "remove the garbage bin and replace with the wall and christmas decor" and got the result I shared.
@DavidDarnes We traveled to Edinburgh from Luton for a few days right before the holiday, I'm sure that's how I picked something up but luckily Jhey didn't get it at as bad as I did.
Hey friends, my pup had a biposy and we were told today she has a cancerous tumor she needs removed. I'm in between jobs and interviewing but the process is slow.
I've been adding designs to my Etsy shop and trying to ramp up sales there to get some income coming in.
