I explicitly go balls to the wall to protect my tax documents and cat memes, for a couple of reasons:

  1. I am very passionate about the concept of “You shouldn’t have to have anything to hide to deserve the right to privacy.”
  2. People should’t “poop with the door open” (to use a metaphor), so I keep my door shut.
  3. Opinions and ideals can get people hurt if made public, and I want to protect both mine and those of the people i talk to (even if i don’t agree with them).
  4. If everyone took their security and privacy this seriously, nobody would have to worry about some nonce assuming they were committing crimes just because they were protecting their right to privacy. I’m being just one more drop in the bucket.

I really hope we get dumb electric cars. I don’t think we need more spy cameras on wheels going everywhere.

Whats sad is that people keep wanting more client-side anticheat to fix this, when the real answer is server-side anticheat and changing the engine to stop being so leaky with that much information.

Domestic violence, by count of occurrences, has been shown to be around 50/50, with a slight lean towards women instigating slightly more often.

This is not taking into account how hard the partner hits or how much damage they cause, but women do aggress on men about the same as the other way around.

This simplification horribly misunderstands what time-dilation is, and I love it.

The finals game doesnt run on linux so i switched back to windows 11.

Linux is all good if you only play singleplayer games. My friends started playing the finals yesterday and it doesn’t run on linux because of EAC. Windows can run all my games without any proton switching and all the nvidia features like ray reconstruction and pathtracing with frame generation just works (alan wake 2 looks so...

Cool, so since you left linux why are you posting this here?

We all know windows is more compatible by design of the capitalism machine, we left it by choice for a reason.

What if the DE you’re using is on x11

If that’s the case, now you have to do what us wayland users have had to suffer through this whole time and set an environment variable to tell it to run in X11 mode :)

If an application only ships with Wayland, then… well, I guess you’re using Wayland now.

Wayland is X12 - this is a “get onboard or get left behind” proposition. Nobody’s forcing you to switch to Wayland, but life is going to really start sucking for you soon.

As with all Open Source, it requires someone who wants to continue to support it to do so. If nobody wants to support X11 anymore, then it’s either your responsibility to pick up where they left off and code the X11 stuff yourself (and ideally give back to the community that’s been giving to you this whole time), or pay someone else a lot of money to do it. You don’t get to complain about something being given to you for free suddenly not being maintained otherwise.

Not to be rude or anything, but it really does seem like you have a victim complex.

There is already something in the works (that you can technically buy right now if you wanted), and it actively respects your freedom. Granted, as with everything in this ecosystem, its a very slow burn, so it’ll be a while before the software is actually good, but it’s already made massive strides from where it started.

I would say wait a bit and take a look at this later, but i do have one friend daily driving one now to some success (this wasn’t possible a year ago).

I believe the estimated numbers are closer to 3.7m but I don’t have a reliable source on this. I think some people on /v/ ran some total revenue numbers and did some math to derive that number.

If you want to kill x86, you need to do what Valve and the Wine foundation did with Proton/WINE (mostly proton at this point though), but for x86 to ARM and maybe other architectures like RISCV (especially because the milkV pioneer is a thing).

There is too much legacy software that will never be converted that people still use to this day. Once you make it easy to transition, it will slowly but steadily start to happen.

Box86/Box64 are promising, but need help from contributors like you. If you want it to happen, go make it happen, or continue to live in the world you have now.

It’s not the knitting projects at home or shooting cans in the woods people have an issue with, it’s the legislature you vote for, the way you treat people when you’re not at home, and the kinds of people you support (people in aggressive positions of authority)

As a multimonitor user with mixed properties, and an AMD user, Wayland has been nothing but a massive gain for me and continues to get better in equally massive strides on KDE (been using kwin-wayland for almost a full year as a daily driver now). It even improved the user experience on my surface pro that I’m running the surface-linux kernel on.

The technical term for this is “westaboo” and the king of this group is Hideo Kojima.

I think that’s because the software comes from a similar place. You have to fight for your freedom and it takes effort, and the people that put that effort in like to feel good about it by sharing (or showing off). It’s like gym-goers who like to show their hard-earned progress.

And then there’s the fundamental differences in core philosophy, where a lot of friction between open and closed source projects comes in. It’s warranted, but I get why it’s annoying.

Linux 6.6 To Better Protect Against The Illicit Behavior Of NVIDIA's Proprietary Driver (www.phoronix.com)

Luis Chamberlain sent out the modules changes today for the Linux 6.6 merge window. Most notable with the modules update is a change that better builds up the defenses against NVIDIA’s proprietary kernel driver from using GPL-only symbols. Or in other words, bits that only true open-source drivers should be utilizing and not...

Them becoming raging zealots is kind of the only realistic way to defend the GPL though. If they don’t, it’s just going to get treated like toilet paper. I’d much rather have the angry hate mob than to be disrespected by big companies who can otherwise just get away with whatever they want.

Damn, those layer lines are clean. Link to STL?

I submitted a pull request to change the English user-facing strings to exclude the words "Reddit," "Subreddit," and "Multireddit" wherever possible, but there are still more languages to translate.

If you would like to contribute, please consider making a fork of the repo and updating the language strings for your native language. Take care not to change the actual variable names (i.e. leave the word "reddit" and "subreddit" in the variable tags, but change the actual string values)....
