Just released a small update to 19.5 of the @screamingfrog SEO Spider -

https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider-19/#19.5

Mostly small updates & bug fixes.

FID has also been replaced with INP in our Core Web Vitals Assessment, in preparation for the change in a month.

seoseb,

@screamingfrog how is the internal update notification triggered? My SEO Spider is still "up to date" with 19.4

What does blanket redirect mean?

seoseb,

@ilovechoclates_ @simoncox I was today years old when I learned the word "blanket redirect"
👍

Have I fallen into a test balloon in which Google removes the display of the number of results? I noticed it during a site query. Please don't - I need this from time to time.

cc: is that new @rustybrick 🙂

seoseb,

@frank @simoncox @rustybrick I bet they want to scare us SEO people.

Well now - updated a post from 2019 about testing with unique words and today I asked Google Bard what it meant to see if it had been added to the learning model (the word is in Google search) - interesting results!

seoseb,

@simoncox excuse me, did you just pludgebang my attention?

seoseb,

@simoncox @SEOSuedwest our markets are spoiled with too much useless content due to the game, therefore Google needs more time to train and tune the SGE - just a quick uneducated guess

One of my lesser favourite GSC alerts.

Also I retired in 5 secs and it was ok.

seoseb,

@simoncox but it says you should retry in a few hours. Why can't you just listen to the message box?
😄

Gah - Lighthouse is borked! Bug already raised in Github 5 hours ago so it's not me! (Though i did test on other sites JIC.) Serve me right for upgrading Vivaldi this morning.

seoseb,

@simoncox shoutout to fellow Vivaldi user👋

seoseb,

@simoncox Vivaldi is my favorite private browser - perfect for doing all my non work related stuff. (I actually came for the email client back in the day when they started their product, as I loved the Opera mail client and was very disappointed about Operas restart.). FF, Chrome, Edge and Brave are mainly spoiled with job/work/tech related stuff.

Somebody at Google thought they’re being funny. I don’t think this is funny. It’s wrong. The exact opposite should be true. Whatever remains must not be an empty page.

seoseb,

@simevidas WOW - I always thought what was left should be a readable and usable HTML file.

Thats it - I'm locked out of tweetdeck.twitter.com - now throws me back to twitter.com with adverts to upgrade. The y did say Tweetdeck would be premium from August and they have done it. I was dipping in a couple of times a week to pick up direct tweets and partake in SEO chats but i can't do the chats without tweetdeck - normal twitter is rubbish for that.

Adios tweetdeck - you were fun.

seoseb,

@simoncox Tweetedeck was the only way for me to make sense of Twitter on the desktop. The redirect to the premium subscription this morning has finally destroyed it for me.

It is a worry that results like this are appearing in Google. These will really devalue Google's Search results and erode the trust in what has been a very strong brand.

This one is obvious but there may be many results, where people read the Featured Snippet and don't investigate the link, that are a lot more subtle but wrong. This is a very worrying trend.

The website the featured snippet comes from has a banner at the top stating it is for sale. The page is an interaction between a human asking "did you know there is no country in Africa that starts with K?" and a Chat GPT response that Google has shown as the featured snippet and that is extremely incorrect.

seoseb,

@simoncox
Google: "Deliver the most relevant and reliable information available"

AI: "Haha, I'll show you!"
