Does anyone know if gmail applies its spam filtering to email fetched via POP3? I can't find an answer anywhere... :/

@beckrd @Nerdfest Ahh, I see my initial question was ambiguous.

I'm hosting my own email server, and using gmail as a client, so POPing email into my gmail.com address from my own personal domain and personal server.

So, you came up during my livestream today, @EposVox. Someone said, “be kind, rewind”, and so I started talking about your YouTube channel.

I’m basically impressed with your love of A/V and games/gear from what must be from before your time.

@EposVox Well, it’s not all hearts and flowers. I also blame you (and my ADHD impulsivity) for the Rodecaster Duo arriving tomorrow… lol!

Hey @EposVox — love the 4x3 throwback. It warms my cold, bitter heart. :) https://youtu.be/YTHQm_m5Lhg

@n @EposVox To be clear, I don’t like HD content cropped to 4x3. “Full screen DVDs” were the worst.

But we used to film everything in 4x3 for YouTube. And the nostalgia is delicious. (I’d link examples, but when Linux Journal was purchased they deleted the YouTube channel… sigh)

@geerlingguy I’ll happily hand over the baton… I’ve had it for two weeks now. 😳

@ivory With iOS 17, I can't seem to attach a photo to a toot. Is this an error with my phone, or a problem with Ivory? (FWIW, Bluesky doesn't work either, and Instagram didn't work until I upgraded to their release from today)

shawnp0wers,
@shawnp0wers@nerdlings.net avatar

@ivory I did check all those settings. I'll try removing Ivory and reinstalling it. Maybe some data got corrupted during the upgrade to iOS 17… will report back.

shawnp0wers,
@shawnp0wers@nerdlings.net avatar

@ivory Sadly, that didn't help. Something got b0rked with my photo library apparently. Odd it's only with some apps though. Twitter/Threads/Insta work. Bluesky & Ivory don’t.

Thanks for the quick reply. Wish me luck.

@ivory A THIRD reboot of the phone did the job. Oy. Thanks again. :)

Did you know that human-made satellites are actually pretty easy to spot in the sky?

shawnp0wers,

@badastro It's the alien ones with their cloaking fields that are difficult to spot… ;)

The more I actually use a Mac, the more I realize all the shit people project onto them just isn’t true.

@EposVox It’s almost annoying how they “just work” so well.

Like, part of me hates the walled garden. But it’s such a nice garden! :)

There are like 6 Twitters now. It's hard to pick which one to procrastinate on now.

shawnp0wers,
@shawnp0wers@nerdlings.net avatar

@geerlingguy and open APIs are no longer Vogue, so an all-in-one app isn’t in the cards. Sigh.

@geerlingguy @lightweight When people ask me that (during podcasts, livestreams, etc) — I generally guess they’ll federate, but include ads injected into OUR streams if we follow Threads users. It would be simple, and nefarious.

It’s honestly amazing how, as I’ve aged, I’ve gone from pirating out of necessity/rebellion to trying to not pirate unless I absolutely had to, to thinking it’s the only ethical answer. :/

shawnp0wers,
@shawnp0wers@nerdlings.net avatar

@EposVox Same. I now subscribe to services, but then rip/download copies and archive them locally to actually watch. Same with Audible. They do things like get a new narrator and remove the original. (The Martian, for example.)

So I “pirate” things I’m legitimately paying for. The world got weird.

I haven’t gotten around to watching Crater yet. Thankfully, I snagged a copy. Sigh.

I feel like AI bots would be great at writing syntax-heavy metadata files like yaml for Kubernetes - anyone tried put "writing valid yaml config files in plain English" yet?

shawnp0wers,
@shawnp0wers@nerdlings.net avatar

@dneary Meh, they’d combine tabs and spaces. ;)
