I'm on a scenic train ride with family through rural Virginia. Lives up to the adjective.

This little guy is sitting outside my office window singing his heart out. I love Carolina wrens. They're so loud for such wee things!

When it comes to black holes, one of the most common questions I get is: if they eat even light, how do we find them?

Turns out, plenty of ways!

A new trippy NASA video shows you what it's like to take the last plunge you'll ever take.

No aurora but I did see two satellites cross paths near The bowl of the Big Dipper (the two shaky lines near the bottom). This was literally handheld, and you can see how far the SATs moved in 3 seconds.

Should you worry about a nearby supernova wiping out life on Earth?

Probably not. At least, not for a million years or two.

Not only do I have a cool pic of an undersea volcano's eruption plume in today's newsletter, but there's also stuff about asteroids and heavy elements and another thing about asteroids!

Bonus: It's free!

Another jaw-dropping JWST shot, with some mane-raising science:

The iconic Horsehead nebula is getting slowly eaten away by the ferocious light of a nearby star.

If, by slowly, you mean rapidly enough to dissolve our entire Moon every seven years.

Rogue planets wander through interstellar space!

And JWST just took a look at the closest known one, called WISE 0855, and found it has clear skies.

I would like to personally thank the Sun for blasting out four solar flares simultaneously on the same week I explain solar storms and also warn folks about the dangers of them.

Sometimes stars, well… they eat their planets.

They eat their planets.

And it happens a lot. Certainly a lot more than I would've guessed.
