as hideous as the Biden administration has been in supporting Israel’s destruction and ethnic cleansing of Gaza, the fact is that a Republican administration would be even worse. We know this because they’ve told us that it would. This is not idle rhetoric; it’s who they are. The terrible reality is that these are our choices for November. If the Democrats remain in power, we may not be able to win much, but we’ll at least be able to challenge them

Exactly. This is the choice. The party that will double down on genocide, or the party with leaders that are increasing pressure for ceasefire.

And one of those parties also wants to ban abortion, institute minority rule, overturn democratic elections, cut food assistance, cut social security, and give tax breaks to wealthy.

It’s Lemmy. People are just reading the title and not the article.

The USDA literally says the opposite of this. It turns rancid.

But don’t let some rando on the internet be the judge. Cut a stick in half, leave half out, wait a week, then taste.

Something not mentioned in the video.

A second Boeing whistle blower just abruptly died.

Israeli Weapons Firms Required to Buy Cloud Services From Google and Amazon (theintercept.com)

Google and Amazon are both loath to discuss security aspects of the cloud services they provide through their joint contract with the Israeli government, known as Project Nimbus. Though both the Ministry of Defense and Israel Defense Forces are Nimbus customers, Google routinely downplays the military elements while Amazon says...

IMHO, data centers kind of need to be somewhat close to important population areas in order to ensure low latency.

You need a spot with attainable land, room to scale, close proximity to users, and decent infrastructure for power / connectivity. You can’t actually plop something out in the middle of BFE.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

One of those cities is pretty close to Redmond. The other 2 are 2-3 hours away from a major population center. The San Francisco equivalent would be data centers in Sacramento. Not exactly next door, but close enough to ensure that latency isn’t terrible for loading an e-commerce site or something.

  • Under 10 million euros: No CTF during the three year period.
  • Between 10 million and 50 million euros: CTF must be paid, but it is capped at one million euros per year for the three year period.
  • Beyond 50 million euros: Benefit is no longer available, and the full CTF has to be paid.
  • After three years: Developers will pay for each first annual install after the initial one million first annual installs per year.

Whistle blowers getting killed, an authoritarian running for office, new laws targeting lgbtq+ people. The USA is starting to feel a lot like Russia these days.

Charging is literally the only reason why I would ever consider a Tesla over another EV. The non-Tesla networks are often significantly underpowered for fast-charging, or straight up broken. And not all of Tesla’s network is open to non-Tesla EVs and or non-Tesla NACS EVs. If you want full access to the largest, fastest, and most reliable network, you need a Tesla.

But I guess Musk now wants to put that at risk too.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

This is a very common misconception. These vehicles will not have access to the full network. They’ll have access to about a 1/3rd of it.

Telsa’s North American network is over 50k chargers, but these companies are all advertising that they’re going to have access to just over 15k chargers.

Moreover, if you look at Telsa’s network map, they have already defined which charges are all EV, non-Tesla NACS, and Telsa Only. And Telsa only is exactly what it means. No Fords or GMs.

“Winston Churchill once famously observed that Americans will always do the right thing, only after they have tried everything else.”

Langworth has combed through millions of words written by and about Churchill and found no evidence that the former prime minister ever said that about America.

At the very least this will likely make it medically legal across the US. Which means this map will now be entirely bright and dark green. The orange and light green states will vanish. If you’re in Idaho, Dr. Nick can now get you a script.

Moreover, this also means that many in the industry, likely the medical dispensaries, will likely be able to use federal banks. No more cash / debit only businesses.

It’s not full recreational use, but these are pretty big steps for access and allowing the marijuana industry to function like a boring normal businesses. I’ll take it. This is huge.

simplejack,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

I would assume that, now that this is in the same category as Tylenol with codeine, this opens up proper prescription access to anyone living in the few remaining states that have bans.

Moreover, I would imagine that this now means certain dispensaries and producers can now use banks. Probably only the medical producers and dispensaries for now, but nevertheless, this is huge. It means people can now properly invest in the marijuana industry.

Apple:

Opens iOS third party App Store rules.

Command+F

Replace “iOS” with “iPadOS”

Clicks “Replace All”

I want to run unsigned apps on iPadOS, just like MacOS.

That said, regarding support for “slightly older” hardware. For all that Apple sucks at, they have usually been good about supporting older hardware. iPads have historically received 5 years of major releases, and then a couple years of security updates after that 5 years. The big exception being that very first iPad which was cut off after 3 years.

Moreover, software support for an old OS tends to become an issue after 2 or 3 years. Those of use who are developing iPad apps look at the traffic and start to deprecate support legacy OS versions that are in the low single digits.

Realistically, it’s about 7 to 8 years before I start to think about new hardware. That said, I still have an old ass 2013 iPad Air that I use for web browsing and messaging. Thing still works fine for that, but the third party apps are kind of stuck in 2020 / 2021 land.
