smartwater0897,

You can actually follow hashtags on mastadon, which is a lot easier then knowing users. :)

smartwater0897,

Very much so. It shares the load, both from a technical point of view but also from moderation and maintenance point of view.

It's actually pretty great, all of this.

smartwater0897,

Even if that is true, it shouldn't bother you I think. You have to let people have their convictions. The alternative is The Ministry of Truth. :)

smartwater0897,

Sure but look at some of the discussions in the US...they are also completely convinced that the US is the best country in the world.

It's something with certain human beings it seems, that makes them want to join a team and defend it, no matter if it has flaws and is obviously incorrect at times. They connect their self confidence to their country I guess.

Reddit has permanently suspended my account for supporting Lemmy.

I have been supporting Lemmy recently a lot and made posts about Lemmy that got big reach. Today, sadly the reddit account through which, I moderated a lot of subs and spent time on, comes to an end. The reason was because I spammed according to reddit, but the reality is that they have censored me because I was hurting Reddit....

smartwater0897,

Why would you work for free to help reddit, when you know what they are? Is it because you still have hope the site will go back to how it was when you started?

smartwater0897,

Very good. People have had enough.

smartwater0897,

I have more posts than I know what to do with. I have subscribed to a lot of communities from a lot of different instances so it's a lot of activity.

I recommend everyone to do this and then later turn off some if it becomes too much. But being able to see most of the posts and contribute there will help Lemmy take off. :)

smartwater0897,

I think it would actually be a better user default to be included in the most popular communities so they see a lot of posts. Otherwise if you subscribe to a instance with not many of their own communities, you will think there is nothing going on.

I was thinking to write a guide for this. Users need to go to search, pick All instances and then search on something. But that's not easy to know on day one.

smartwater0897,

I don't know, the article says you can't get away from Google but it's pretty easy to reduce your exposure.

Use another email provider and another search engine and you have pretty much removed most of the sensitive data they have on you.

If you enjoy Youtube, just install F-droid and then Newpipe to get a completely ad free experience on your phone as well. And it's fast, has background playing with optional popup for video, higher resolution support etc. It's excellent.

smartwater0897,

If you want to, sure. I haven't used Google for many years but others seem happy to continue using them.

I think a lot of people have given up on privacy but it's not too hard these days to get some. You just can't get perfect privacy. Then you can't even own a phone or have a credit card.

smartwater0897,

Someone needs to decide, yes, or your kind of confrontational personality will cause everyone to be annoyed.

You literally ask questions without being open to seeing the other point of view here. I'm not going to use tech that makes it much harder for me to be productive just because it's free. It's similar to choose to live in a tent in the forest because you feel you don't want to take a loan and support the banks.

Just breathe a little bit and calm down. People here are very chill and you just come in here looking for a fight, judging by your responses.

We don't have to fight eachother online and people who disagree is sometimes a learning opportunity if you are open to it. They are not your enemy because they have different beliefs.

smartwater0897,

Thanks you, subbed to a lot of them. The more content and more posts, the better. :)

smartwater0897,

I think it's good that it's disabled, since people downvote when they disagree, and it creates the same echo chamber as on reddit.

People need to be OK with others opinions and be able to read and move on without needing to punish the person for his opinion.

smartwater0897,

I saw some checkbox for enabling NSFW content when signing up for Lemmy and in the profile. Maybe you have it enabled?

smartwater0897,

Ah yes, you got a point there.
