I am here in the Southeast and the forests are already pulsating with billions of periodical cicadas and their soon-to-be-overstuffed predators.

This morning my internet went out and Comcast provided an unusually realistic resolution time of 7:00pm, which means I should be back online in the year 2367, just in time for the Borg invasion.

I admit I'm a bit nostalgic for the late-90s era of terrible, awful hardware born during a time when everyone was still trying to figure out how computers were supposed to work in our everyday lives. I want to see more nonsense hardware like this! I just wish the people who made them weren't so utterly self-centered, arrogant shitheads. https://www.theverge.com/24126502/humane-ai-pin-review

One of my favorite social phenomena that emerged from the eclipse was seeing how small towns in the path of totality went ALL IN on the spectacle, each in their own unique way. https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/next-eclipse-time-capsule

The solar filter I ordered for my nice camera arrived in time for the eclipse!

Get in losers. We’re gonna stare directly at the sun.

Nowadays, my threat model includes “every text I get from an unknown number is a scammer.”

So, uhh… maybe don’t send political fundraising messages via SMS??

I have gotten weirdly obsessed with library terminals from the late 80s/early 90s. I really want one, but I don’t think I have the time or skill to refurbish one myself. Are there retrocomputing shops in the Bay Area that might have a working model for sale?
