I am and all my life have been a Linux user, I have nothing against Windows or MacOS, I just like Linux, and lately I have been experimenting with Windows in a virtual machine and I don’t really know much open source software there apart from the one that is cross-platform like Firefox or Joplin....
What is a good FOSS Android app to scan documents and immediately convert them to pdfs? On Microsoft Lens, you can take multiple scans and also merge different ones together to create a combined PDF. Thanks.
I have just received a Samsung galaxy fold5 through the post, however I imagine it’s full of bloatware and I’m inexperienced with this type of device. What is the first things that you would do to secure it? Thank you 😊...
I think you confuse security and privacy. Samsung are pretty secure from what I saw. They are not private at all however. You can debloat it with adb and maybe tools such as Universal Android Debloater.
Pretty much the title. I installed my GOG games through Lutris and wanted to rapidly import them to Steam. Same for emulated ROM. Do you have advices ?
I like Fairphone’s mission but kinda feel meh about their execution. Don’t get me wrong they probably do better than everyone else. But releasing a phone per year isn’t great for the environment. Removing the headphone jack wasn’t for ecological reasons. Making tiny earbuds isn’t in hand with easy reparability. And you can’t upgrade anything !
I wish they will slow the pace for a release every 2 years with better upgradability. I also wish they would work with GrapheneOS so the hardware and firmware are secure enough for the Graphene team to work on that device.
But nice that the brand is still alive. I hope they won’t go too much into green washing.

I'm trying to lean away from big tech these days so I'd rather avoid having a vanilla android phone that's Google focused with lots of bloat ware. Any recommendations on what to consider?
BEST : Pixel with GrapheneOS Second best : Fairphone 4 or SHIFT 6mq with CalyxOS Third best : /e/OS or iodéOS or SimpleOS
If you can live without Google Mobile Services or microG Divest OS comes in second position when locked bootloader is supported and third when it's not supported
Often people tend to say due to the lack of funding open source apps have bad UI and also sometimes terrible UX. While it’s not entierly false I’ve found myself some beautifuly designed apps and wanted to share them here.
I know that Graphene OS is the best OS for privacy/security on a Pixel, but I have both a non-Pixel phone. What is the second best ROM in this case? I know that Lineage still has some Google telemetry since it's meant to be as close to AOSP as possible and not actually de-Googled. Maybe /e/ OS then?
CalyxOS will start supports Fairphone 4, OnePlus 8T and 9 DivestOS supports tons of devices however not all can have their bootloader relocked or works nicely you have to check every devices they listed on their website.
What open source programs do you recommend for Windows? (Windows exclusive or not)
