Robots will have values and ethics completely different from humans, so there is no way to know how they will view us if they were sentient. It’s entirely possible that they will see being forced to speak to humans in our language to be just as patronizing to them as we think it’s to us.

Probably a stupid question as I have never used ApkMirror before and generally am weary of app mirror sites: How is it in terms of reputability? Does it repackage apps or does it directly serve the original releases?

Mullvad Announce Latest Infrastructure Audit (mullvad.net)

"RoS discovered a number of new findings, and we would like to thank them for their thorough and detailed report. They stated , amongst other things that: that whilst they found some issues, that: “The Mullvad VPN relays which were the subject of this test showed a mature architecture…” and “During the test we found no...

Jeez is this why my torrents slowed down to a crawl lately? I’m on Mullvad and wasn’t aware they removed port forwarding, or even really what port forwarding is until now.

We're the creators of Lemmy, Ask Us Anything. *Starts Monday, 7 Aug, 1500 CEST*

This is an opportunity for any users, server admins, or interested third parties to ask anything they’d like to @nutomic and I about Lemmy. This includes its development and future, as well as wider issues relevant to the social media landscape today....

Hi! This isn’t really a question, but I was a former admin on Lemmy.ml and I just want to say that I really appreciated the opportunity to be on your team and it was a really valuable experience for me! I’m no longer an admin due to inactivity and personal life events causing me to no longer have the time to serve such a role, but I enjoyed the time I was and I really hope I was able to make a positive contribution to the instance!

Thank you for your continued work developing this project and running your instance comrades! This is still by far my favourite fediverse platform, actually, favourite social media in general. I intend to continue using both Lemmy.ml and Lemmygrad and I hope I can continue to contribute by using Lemmy when I have the chance!

It was my pleasure! Thank you for the opportunity!

Thank you so much comrade! I loved working with you and the other admins and am very grateful for the experience!

Whatever you call them, sugar-based popiscles have nothing on pieces of frozen fruit. You can even get bags of them at grocery stores and plenty of convenience stores!

On one hand I’m interested in seeing how well it works and what they do with it, on the other hand…

My Opinion: NewPipe, Piped, Invidious, etc's days are numbered.

With Reddit shutting down its API setting a precedent in the corporate tech world (and Reddit was a major outlier in that a ton of their users are technical minded and support third party clients, YouTube does not have that kind of userbase and will not get backlash for it), Twitter doing whatever the fuck they’re doing, and...

But at the same time, not enough people use 3rd party YouTube apps to cause any significant backlash if they deny api access

I have clarified the title.

I don’t think there are any that don’t require jailbreak/sideloading, but you can always use the browser versions like Invidious or Piped!

I wish you the best of luck! I’m on a similar journey to replace YouTube.

AgreeableLandscape,

Probably not. There’s no netflix-dl for a reason.

AgreeableLandscape,
@AgreeableLandscape@lemmy.ml avatar

Yeah that’s on me. I never really looked for netflix downloader type software because everything I’d possibly want to watch on Netflix (not a lot all things considered) is available on torrent. Guess I never really wondered how they rip the videos for torrenting, which in hindsight is kind of obvious.

As far as I know yes.

They most likely intended it as a way to showcase their game engine. Not sure how well that works considering everyone hates the Epic launcher, but you do you I guess.

And you could upgrade them too. Back when socketed CPUs existed on laptops along with expansion slots, and batteries were removable with a thumb latch (and most laptops could run on the power adapter without the battery being installed, which prevented trickle charging related battery degradation, perfect for a “desktop replacement” that would spend a lot of its time hooked up to power before that category of laptops even really existed). Good times.
