I also use private mode for searching things that I myself would be appalled to find in my own search history.

It’s all about what you’re acclimated to. I’ve lived with 105 and dry in west Texas AND 90 and swampy in Oklahoma and I’ll take the former. When the dew point hits about 70 degrees, you can sweat and sweat and sweat and sweat and none of it matters because it will almost never evaporate off of you. And 70 is baby humidity. We had a few days last summer where the dew point came up just short of 80. Which can make a 100 degree day yield a heat index of 125+.

And all that humidity really saps your AC’s cooling potential. It spends most of its energy pulling moisture from the air instead of actually making the air cool enough to be much use. It’ll be 80 degrees and swampy inside your house too, especially if it’s older construction. Nobody ever mentions this when talking about dry heat vs wet heat. If you can keep your indoor dew point below 60, you’re doing alright.

I’ll take this over Florida or Houston. We start to get some real relief by Labor Day and it’s usually gone entirely by Halloween.

Some of us here are paying attention and are aware of the situation. We just aren’t all that common, unfortunately. You hear the same thing come up like clockwork when someone brings up the heat waves and wild fires in the PNW.

it’s just Cholula so it’s not actually spicy

My mother-in-law would beg to differ lol I’ve had salsa that tastes like dish water that she’s said is too spicy.

Lmao no but she takes her steak well done. Then dips that in ketchup. Bugs the shit out of me, but I like her a lot so I just let her “enjoy” her hockey puck however she likes it lol

My in-laws are very kind people, and I love them as much as I love my own parents. Her taste in food is just…questionable, sometimes.

McDonald’s has lost their place. They think that just because they decorate their stores like a Millennial’s minimalist dream hellscape that it suddenly makes a McChicken $2.49. No. It’s the same god damned sandwich I could buy 15 years ago, 2/$1. A couple friends and I once bought dinner there on couch cushion change and the few bucks we had in our pockets. And it was glorious. And I know the McDonalds’ around me are still paying $9-10 an hour. Like they were in '09. I’m not convinced the cost of everything else justifies the annihilation of the Dollar Menu.

It used to be that I went to McDonald’s because I was broke, tired, and hungry. I wasn’t going there because I wanted to be there. I was going there because I was burning the candle at both ends and was just desperate for anything that wasn’t meatless spaghetti I cooked last Wednesday. It was an inexpensive morale boost. I just can’t find a reason to go there anymore. For the money, there are WAY better options. We have more local chains that blow McDonalds out of the water.

Taco Bell is going the same route, but at least the food is consistently pretty good. I mean, it’s pretty hard to fuck up a bean burrito. But is a bean burrito really $1.79 now? I get they can’t be 79¢ forever, but damn, man. I just feel bad for broke college kids these days. You really can’t get a cheap meal anymore.

And don’t get me wrong - I’d happily pay today’s prices if I knew the workers were being paid $20 an hour like they should be, but I know they’re not. Not in Oklahoma.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Indian man on YouTube put me through college 10-14 years ago. He’s a real one.

It wasn’t that my instructors were discouraging me or anything. Indian man just has a way of explaining things.

It starts to really sink in after about 100 hours lol

My first job out of college, I worked with a lot of Indian people. It was like I was uniquely prepared to work there.

I used to clean the stalls on the weekends for my uncle for some spending money when I was a kid. Great way to make a quick fifty bucks for a couple hours of work. The horses were all chill. They’d leave you alone and let you work. The one pony was a fucking piece of shit. You put him in a different stall or he’d get behind you and bite at your ass cheeks or your arms the whole time. Absolute rat bastard.

He also had a donkey that was the sweetest, neediest guy. He’d follow you along the fence begging for attention. Sometimes, I’d grab a few carrots just for him before heading over.

Isn’t that basically the same life cycle as anglerfish?

My orange cat is the direct opposite. You look in his general direction for even a fraction of a second, and he’s all over you like Grandma’s kisses.

It’s sweet.

But it’s also exhausting sometimes.

Perhaps the thing from that time that aged like the finest of wines was “LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE.” Cara was at least a solid decade ahead of her time.

Good thing I use Ubuntu for >90% of my computing now.

I’m under no illusion Ubuntu is perfect. But I PAID for my Windows licenses. And if I paid, I don’t want to see ads. I don’t care about Win 8’s penetrative pricing model or the $25 coupon. I don’t care that I paid for my licenses 10+ years ago. Don’t sell me ads on a product I paid for. And Windows serves up ads all the god damned time now. If there’s anything good to be said about Windows 8, it’s that it didn’t take every opportunity to sell me an Office 365 subscription ever second breath I took. I don’t actually remember the last time I saw an ad in Ubuntu, and I’ve been using it to varying degrees since 2011. I think we can at least agree Canonical is better than Microsoft, yeah?

All that said, I’ve had thoughts of switching to plain old Debian, especially now that I’d consider myself much more experienced and comfortable in Linux. But if I were recommending a distro to a new user, I am one million percent telling them Ubuntu or Mint, depending on how they feel about the Windows UI.

Memes really can be anything, though. 15 years ago, we were posting “Y U NO” and rage face and having loads of fun with it. Once upon a time, the most liked post on Instagram was an egg. Of course it’s stupid. If you think today’s memes suck, then make the memes you want to see in the world.

He knows this. I used to listen to his show. And in all my time listening to him, he never took on a caller who was making nine bucks an hour and struggling to make ends meet. His most frequent type of caller is a straight late twenties couple who make $140k a year, who owe maybe $25k in credit cards, and whose obvious answer to fixing the problem is to sell the thousand dollar car payment for something more basic and eat out less often. Because he knows if minimum wage workers get past the screeners, there’s nothing he can do to help. That’s a systemic problem and he knows he’s part of it. What’s he gonna tell them? Go get a better job? Cool. If everyone does that, there won’t be any of those jobs for 90% of them, one, and two, there won’t be anyone working those important low wage jobs. Someone’s gotta flip the burgers. Someone’s gotta stock the shelves. The problem is systemic. And the answer is fuck the rich.
