Firefox in the meanwhile but long term we need to move away from the unfathomably bloated web protocol standard/browsers.

I believe the rant demonstrates there cannot be more competition for browsers and therefore justifies the idea that browsers will stagnate and come to an end. I think the solution will be to move away from one application doing many things to using separate software dedicated to narrow purposes.

What is your machine naming scheme?

I’ve ended up with a number of machines on my network, and a need to name them all in a somewhat logical way. For several years I had them named after the planets, which worked well until the PCs for myself, my girlfriend, servers and Raspberry Pi’s quickly summed up to more than the eight planets. I’ve broadened it...

I’ve not played for years but I still have a YuGiOh cards naming scheme.

If "No one owes you anything," then you also owe nothing to a society that works against you, including allegiance, civility, or pacifism.

A society in which it’s everyone for themselves, that refuses to care for one another, is no society at all. Then everyone acts shocked and horrified at someone who understandably snaps, like modern western culture doesn’t run entirely on schadenfreude....

because you have to live with yourself

That’s where you’re wrong, sir.

I’d say good on Apple protecting their users but knowing Apple it’s more like they don’t want to be told what to do.

Apple doesn’t like be told what to do.

If privacy is in the way of their desires then Apple will invade their user’s privacy. They don’t stand for privacy.

I believe proprietary software gives unjust power over users and so Apple making a good change (even if it were sincere benevolence) is still in that content.

I happened to view your profile and see recent comments. I see a post saying you choose to switch from Plex (proprietary) to Jellyfin (open source) due to their businesses decisions. Is that’s because you anticipate changes to the software you will dislike? This seems very close to what I just tried to say.

That rebranding seems to me as just hiding past misdeeds. I’m not charitable enough to take apologies from companies at face-value, there would need to be some effort to explain and show change too.

When is rebranding ever good for users/consumers?

I’m looking to self host a blog but I want to use a Gemini capsule instead of a website.

Could be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I actually hate rebranding by itself too. I see a totally new name as just trying to escape their bad name, likely earned by their previous misdeeds.

My Experience Switching From NVIDIA To AMD (lemmy.world)

TLDR: From my experience, in 2023, the Mesa drivers with an AMD GPU provide an experience that is way better than NVIDIA with their proprietary drivers. And if you’re helping a friend get into linux, and or linux gaming I think you should steer them towards an AMD GPU....

There are people out there selling broken cards but if the mining card works then is there really any evidence that it’s less performant or any more likely to fail than a lightly used gaming card?

I’ve almost always bought new but I’d prefer to buy used now to save money and hopefully find out if it has any coil wine. That’s if used prices were any different than new (Ebay’s UK used prices are dumb).

“Why we hate bi men” may be perceived as an endorsement of that hate due to the “we”. I suspect something like “Why do people hate bi men” wouldn’t do that.

It’s good to know it uses drivers already there. Sadly being part of the kernal somehow doesn’t guarantee the driver are not proprietary binary blobs.

Does Framework do anything regarding FOSS drivers or firmware?

For some “everyone” not talking to you is a perk.

The people I most care for use Discord. I worry I will lose constant with most of them if I stop using that too but I’ve never tried to get other to use something else.

A value in faith or sacred writings is in no way more “human” than a disdain for the illogical.

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?
