まずはマストドンもミスキーも複数のサービスが組み合わさって一つのものを構成しているということを理解するところから始めましょう

一番理解が難しいのがmastodonやmisskeyのアプリケーション本体であり、その他のサービスは出来合いのものとしてお考えください。
ですので、まずは本体を理解するのではなく本体を動かすサービス、例えばnginxや postgresqlが何をするのかを公式サイトのイントロダクションだけでも読むと良いです

@blue0a6m5c それなら、投稿をした時に何が起きるのかをざっと紙にまとめてみるのはどうでしょう？
ブラウザから投稿が送信されたらどこにいって何が受け取って、どのような順番で処理がされるのか、分からないところは〇〇が処理するとしていったんブラックボックスにしておいて、あとでその中身を説明できるように知識をつけていくといいかもしれません
