I told a certain person off not because I want to somehow condone @dettlaff's clearly idiotic behaviour. This also had nothing to do with Russia or nazis or ableism apologists or whatever else of sort.

It was because I have zero tolerance threshold for bullying and petty blackmail, especially from people I thought I'm on the same team with. I'm taking no such shit, whoever you are.

Shrooms for Diabetes? What?!

"Scientists have started to investigate whether a compound found in magic mushrooms, psilocybin, could play a role in combating the effects of diabetes. According to their preliminary research, published in the journal Genes, psilocybin might help prevent the loss of critical insulin-producing cells in the pancreas."

When I think of medicinal booms, I always think palliative care and the easing of end of life stress, but if it helps, sure.

taxuswc,

@loonycyborg different drugs have different consequences, nobody sane enough would try opiates for example, but what's most surprising is why smoking is still legal.

a few other sentences in no particular order:

  • drug usage can be an indicator that smth is very broken in the society. just forbidding it without changing anything wouldn't solve anything expert getting someone very rich

  • germany is running a (de facto) state-wide experiment of cannabis legalisation, let's see where it would lead them (i hate it though for personal reasons)

@drq
I can write down a pro-prohibition (restriction) argument if you wish & have time for it (probably i would regret it)

full disclosure: I moderated chocolate consumption at some point of my life because I dislike the feeling of depending on some chemical substance to function properly, never got drunk, but still drink tea (always, enjoying the taste) & coffee (at work) though.
@anonymous222

taxuswc,

@drq

Or not. Depends on the context.

Generalization of any point stops making sense at some point, mine was that just the legal prohibition rarely solves the problems it claims to solve. > Personal reasons have nothing to do with it though.

that's why I explicitly stated it> I know all the classic arguments for prohibition. It's the case of every complex problem having a solution which is simple, direct, plausible, and wrong.

okay, your choice. > You already depend on thousands of chemicals to function properly. Everybody does. For somebody the list is a bit longer (if you go into therapy, for example - you do get prescriptions) or a bit shorter, but this doesn't change much.

it matters when you lose access to your favorite kind of drug (me & chocolate ~10y ago), meds/stuff inside the body are a different story because you don't have much choice here> U dirty junkie, get outta here

wellll I got my ass from chocolate, that was an effort.

@loonycyborg @anonymous222

taxuswc,

@drq

Free will doesn't exist, when it comes to how your body functions.

if you made yourself a habit of thinking better when you eat something -- then sometimes you can just get rid of it (the habit) given enough willpower.

because in reality the body doesn't need it from the start, brain was in demand of just enough sugars to work, which can be solved in a saner way. nobody questions the insane water / fresh air consumption when you are doing hard mental work

but the feeling that the body needs the chocolate was there.> But then again, we're conflating the issues of substance use (which can be recreational or medical or both), substance dependency and addiction here

also true

aside: not every comment on the internets is meant to be an invitation to the formal win-or-perish debate, i showed my biases & weaknesses for this reason (see, empty hands, no harm intended), pointing to them seems tempting, but actually pretty much pointless, sorry for confusion / thanks for understanding etc

@loonycyborg @anonymous222

taxuswc,

@anonymous222 my understanding after reading a bit about the topic was that opiates are not something to be tried even if you think you understand what you are doing, but honestly I cannot reply with anything reasonable enough, so I guess I'd read more about it.

@drq @loonycyborg

taxuswc,

@drq @loonycyborg indeed, going to be a crazy 2am ride down the thread.

I'm glad that after 5 years of looking back to that week I can finally write as much as the post above.

Fucking "post-canon" content started tainting Homestuck fan works, like Land of Fans and Music.

This is so sad and disappointing.

taxuswc,

@drq well some (many) years ago I was reading a book and there was a chapter ending with a terrible cliffhanger and an extended commentary in the footnotes saying that it should be almost impossible to resist the urge to turn the page.

.. at this very moment my train finally arrived and I have to leave, so I closed the book an returned to it days later.

that said, if the fan community or the "author vision" is not important, it is technically possible to stop following any story at any point. especially when the author of the story is no longer the same.

if yes, then my condolences.

taxuswc,

@drq the works of the fan community can still be filtered by date to form a bundle of acceptable content, but well, you know, I don't participate, I just lurk 0_0

taxuswc,

@drq

Yeah, I know, I know, "your expectations is your problem" (which basically translates into "fuck you for caring" in this case), and all that.

probably can relate (but for a different thing), but even in that case I just stood up and left and never came back, there were more important things to care about than some fictional universe went rubbish due to the capitalist insanity

I've just learned that I was using kinda dialect of Lisp in my primary school starting second grade lol. The author of Logo language have created Logo at MIT while working in AI Lab and he even wrote at least one Scheme book. Also looks like he knows guys like Sussman. It is very cool. That explains why Emacs and Lisp stuff felt natural for me. At first glance Logo doesn't looks like Lisp at all, but at least it has REPL and lambdas which you can pass around.

https://youtu.be/EzokT19lqPk

taxuswc,

@w96k yay logo, we had it too

taxuswc,

@w96k yeah, it was a ton of fun, we were making a Worms clone in LogoMirs with a friend using all those funny just-learned physics for it.. and then we had c/c++ starting from the 8th grade, which effectively killed my interest to programming for a few years :(

taxuswc,

@w96k yup, it was just a fight against the compiler (in a super crappy ide so you don't even know where it all went wrong..), so by the end of the fight you just have all the joy lost and don't want anything to do with your ptogram anymore, which kinda kills the whole purpose

also, they were teaching us C detached from Unix which is a shame, but luckily we had a bit of interesting computer graphics stuff at the end.

So, is there a Git hosting platform that is:

• FLOSS, self-hostable
• low maintenance (e.g. uses SQLite over PostgreSQL)
• looks pretty, including on mobile
• does not promote AI, blockchain, plaintext email, Docker
• is performant, does not choke on long source files and discussion threads
• does not come with its own distribution of Ruby
• is not written in any of Go, Perl, Zig, V, Hare, Nim

?
