I think GPT 4o represents OpenAI's bet that voice interaction will remain a profitable niche even if LLMs as such become commodities.

I think they're right. To say why really bluntly: intelligence excites researchers. But most people are not going to pay for intelligence. They're going to pay for interfaces that are good at primate emulation. Production values will matter a lot.
