Well it's finally time for me to head home from Boston and I'm gonna try flying standby for my return flight...

I originally had a direct flight home, which was cancelled and I was rebooked onto a flight through Toronto instead (taking a 1 hour flight to 4 hours of annoyance) even later in the day. There's another direct flight earlier in the day that they could have put me onto instead, but won't. That flight seems to have plenty of seats available, so gonna give it a shot!

For what it's worth, I had windows replaced this summer and had my post retrofit audit mid-October. It took about a month for the documentation of that to make it into the GHG systems (not sure if that was slowness on the auditors part or the grant system), so the official submission was mid-November. Here we are mid-January and I haven't gotten my cheque yet, but maybe soon?

It says up to 40 business days, which should have passed, but Xmas, etc?

The 4K BluRay release looks amazing (at least, of Fellowship of the Ring)

It's really amazing how well it holds up - there's definitely some stuff that is becoming a bit more rough around the edges with each new quality increase, but damn does it look good still.

Started with 100 pieces of candy... Ate maybe 5 myself. Started off giving 2 pieces per kid, but then realized I'd need to slow down and switched to 1 per kid. Ended up handing out to 64 kids total, which isn't too bad.

Definitely need to have more candy for next though, since I've seen a lot more go by (or still come and ring the bell) after I turned the lights off.

Every once in a while, my Pixel Watch decides that actually I want notification sounds enabled and bumps my notification/ringer volume from 0 to... something non-zero.

No idea why it does this, but every time it happens, it takes me a few notifications to realize it's my watch making the sound. Classic Wear OS experience.

Just getting my feet wet with and it's weirdly hard to find out how to shut down the hardware properly. (I'm on RPi4).

Found others on discussion boards similarly searching w few answers. A few options seem to have gone away.

Should just be a prominent thing under settings you'd think, no?

One pointer was to Developer Tools > SERVICES and find "Home Assistant Supervisor: Power off the host system" in the list. I've run that then pulled the plug. Is that kosher?

@ottaross If you go to Settings > System, there's a little power icon that appears in the top right corner (at least on desktop). If you click that and expand "Advanced Options", there's a "Shut Down System" button there.

But yes, shutting down isn't something that you really need to do too much

I had a patio door replaced on Friday, which meant that I had a big hole in the side of the house for a little while. Afterwards, there were three flies lingering in the area. I've managed to kill two of them, but one has managed to evade my wrath. This absolute fucker just fucking insists on buzzing around my head, landing on surfaces near me, or landing on my limbs. He is so god damn fast. Fuck this fly.
