One more case against smart phone driven devices. <sigh>
post from @Crystal bell, If you own an instant pot pro plus be awhere that accessiblily is boken to all hell in the latest app update. When you click start the functions such as pressure cook and others do not appear. Exploring by touch doesn't work. I wish they would have let well enough alone.

Well, I went to the bank this morning, and asked the teller for assistance. She asked what I needed, and I told her I needed her to check my balance.

She pushed me.

Sorry, Suzuki, not Auzuki. Sheesh!

So I finally contacted Google disability support about the degrading accessibility of the youTube app for iOS. I'm fairly sure I was sent there from the youTube help site. I summarized a lot of the issues I and other Voiceover users have been having with the iOS app, particularly the hellish clutter of search results and recommended videos. The response I got today directed me to write to YouTube premium support, but the page they linked to is only for help with one-time purchases or ongoing subscriptions. As an alternative, I was told to post in the community. There was no acknowledgement of the issues and no offer to pass it along. It very clearly said "You've reached the wrong place."
My interpretation of this e-mail is simple: Google disability support can't file feedback about youTube. If there is a way to do so and reach an accessibility-aware person, I have not found it.
The youTube iOS app has now degraded to the point where it's painful to use. I think this is a good nudge to move the podcast feed generator in-house (literally) and start listening to videos in Overcast. It'll also make me less unfocused and dependent on the algorithm.

tinygirl,

@simon too bad YouPlayer does not exist anymore. That was a nice and clean YouTube app.

I'm hearing about this Sonos controversy, which further illustrates my argument against the need for a second device to operate something that should be accessible for the blind out of the box to begin with, being it's an audio device. But this is more the case these days where one needs a smart phone to operate appliances. Now, in their infinite unwisdom, Sonos has made their app inaccessible. I'm gathering that one can not use their Sonos device unless one has a smart phone? IDK.

tinygirl,

@simon the point is, more and more, one needs a second device to operate this appliance, and it has to be some kind of a computer, whether it be a smart phone or windows computer.

tinygirl,

@cublanco @simon and the only tv's I knew of that had some sort of accessibility right out of the box were the fire tv's.

tinygirl,

@kev @cublanco @simon Yes, oh my God. My roommate had a . Yes, it was relatively useable, but the speech on that ... oh, my fricking head!

tinygirl,

@cublanco @kev @simon Even the Echo speech synth sounded better than the Roku speech.

tinygirl,

@cublanco @kev @simon I keep hearing about Samsung tv's being better than Fire OS, but I wonder what OS they use, and can such things as eloquence be side-loaded?

Does anyone use a talking / accessible alarm clock that does not have a single bit of internet connectivity? Apple just confirmed issues with their alarm for like the 70 zillionth time—and I've actually had problems with alarms since getting my 15, and given how much effort they've put into not fixing the notification bug that's been present for four years, I feel like I just need an alarm that isn't part of a buggy operating system. I need it to be somewhat loud and would really prefer if it didn't just shut off after 30 seconds like so many of the talking clock chips do. I wish I could just buy a typical clock radio, with the typical annoying alarm on it, but this is the blind tax at work, I guess. I even had Alexa alarms fail a couple of times recently. I muted the echo so I couldn't just say "stop" in my sleep, and they for sure didn't go off. Has anyone else found a low-tech solution to this, or is everyone just putting up with the smart alarns that only work when they want to? At this point I am seriously tempted to just code something myself on a Raspberry Pi. I'm pretty sure cron would make a perfectly good alarm clock. Maybe I'll go all in, and make myself go to the living room and SSH into my alarm clock to turn it off. What better way to make sure I'm out of bed?

tinygirl,

@simon I've yet to try the alarm on my talking atomic clock that has the indoor and outdoor thermometer and an English female voice. More often than not,I use the alarm on my Apple watch, since it vibrates as well. But yeah, the Spartus clock, and the British talking clock and calendar were two of my favorites when it came to alarm clocks.

But short of this unchristian behavior, and at a church nonetheless, a good time was had sharing good memories, and hearing recordings of music he's been known to play over the years on accordian, enjoying some decent food, and having a bit of a reunion with some we've not seen in years.

So, I just found out that, "A Boy Named Sue," written by Shell Silverstein, made a hit by Johnny Cash was so unplanned that when Cash got the lyrics just the night before the San Quinton performance, he honestly did not think it would be a song that he would want to do. But, in the end, he ended up doing the song with no rehearsal, and the lyrics spread out on the floor so he could see them. What do you know? A big hit came from it. I read this in his first autobiography "Man in black."

Wow, had a bit of a scare. We were in this car this evening, the driver was helping a friend of ours into her apartment and I guess he ended up getting stuck helping her out with something. It was getting hot in the car, but the windows were locked shut. So, I thought maybe I could open the door just a little, to get some air in. Welll, ... Just unlocking my door set the damned alarm off, regardless of the fact I was unlocking it from the inside. What the ...?

The local news station was interviewing an 80-year-old lady because she had just gotten married for the fourth time. The interviewer asked her questions about her life, about what it felt like to be marrying again at 80, and then about her new husband's occupation. "He's a funeral director," she answered.

"Interesting," the newsman thought. (1/3)

tinygirl,

He then asked her if she wouldn't mind telling him a little about her first three husbands and what they did for a living. She paused for a few moments, needing time to reflect on all those years. After a short time, a smile came to her face and she answered proudly, explaining that she had first married a banker when she was in her 20's, then a circus ringmaster when in her 40's, and a preacher when in her 60's, and now - in her 80's - a funeral director. (2/3)

tinygirl,

The interviewer looked at her, quite astonished, and asked why she had married four men with such diverse careers.

(Wait for it)

She smiled and explained,

"I married one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go."

(Oh, just hush-up and send this one on to somebody who needs a laugh.)

Origin Credits are unknown. (3/3)

In a way, I'm glad to see this. It takes two people to conceive a baby. And, I'm happy to see that men are taking responsibility for their part.

More young adults opted for vasectomies and tubal ligations after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a new study finds. https://t.co/qLAGxNoJfB

tinygirl,

@gocu54 @ppatel now some states that have this rediculous law in place need to get rid of the requirement that a woman has to have either two babies, or their husband's permission before they could get their tubes tied. That's stupid.

tinygirl,

@gocu54 @ppatel A friend of mine, knowing that she did not want to have kids at all, tried to get her tubes tied, and was told this. And this was in California, of all places. Now, this was when Roe VS Wade was in place. Now hopefully that has changed since.

trying my hand at Explorer++, which has that nice almost classic XP feel to explorer. Might even make Windows 11 look doable, I'm thinking, as far as it's Explorer goes?

It is a total shame that windows gives you an option to use safe mode with networking, but not safe mode with sound. In the cases of those of us who need it, safe mode should have a totally different title. That title is useless mode.

tinygirl,

@evilcookies98 Unfortunately, with safe mode, I guess having a sound device driver loaded is not safe enough. But yeah, I agree with you.

So, I ask my dentist for a list of insurance providers they work with, and they send me an email that looks incomplete. Well, according to JAWS and/or NVDA anyway. Turned out there was an imbedded image, which Smart picture was able to pick up. How accurate the description and text is, ... Now on the phone, the image does show up as a .png file in the middle of the email which I could then double tap on and then try sending to Seeing AI and other scanning apps. Still ... <gritted teeth roar>

I know there are lots of fans out there, and probably they like all of their songs. As for me however, I was discovering the great quartet sporadically, that's why maybe I like some of their songs far more than others. But there are some songs that I truly adore. One of them is "Because". If heavens exist, then either the music producer there included that masterpiece to the constant concert program, or they have no musical taste at all. the harmonies, the melody, the lyrics, everything about this song is so beautiful!

tinygirl,

@menelion I like that song a a-capella, (Because.)
