My wife works in a restaurant, and the power-tripping manager has instituted a new policy where all shift changes must be approved by management. I think that is reasonable enough, but they’re also asking the originally-scheduled employee why they are switching shifts, then approving or denying based on the answer....
This Wikipedia page honestly has some of the best climate change graphics I’ve seen anywhere. They’re simple, fact-based, concise and paint a pretty obvious and telling picture.
I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I...
Yeah this is what I do. My subscribed feed is all news and discussion (and good discussion at that!), and then I go to All to see the memes. I first I subscribed to a meme community or two and it dominated my feed.
Honestly people talk too much about the fediverse and federation to newbies and it creates this false barrier to entry. Here’s this person, commenting on a post not knowing shit about how it works or where it’s from. You don’t really need to know about all of that stuff to get going. Just go to any of the instances and get browsing.
I like to browse with the “Show Read Posts” setting disabled as it keeps the feed fresh, however there’s times where I’d like to go into a specific community and see all of the posts including the hidden ones. Right now the only way to do that is to go into settings and toggle the setting on my profile. On reddit you...
A one-day minor downtick isn’t a trend when it’s been up day-over-day for a while now. I’m sure the user counts will ebb and flow over time, but as long as the community stays healthy and the big social media companies keep being greedy, I think this platform has a good shot at long-term viability.
I mean you do you, but it has happened in places with safe drinking water. Apparently the amoeba can live in the distribution system? I dunno I’m not an expert just isn’t a thing I would gamble on
I am currently getting signed out every minute from lemmy.world. This is not a client side cache issue. I tested making API calls from the command line (with curl) with no cache and the issue still occurs. One call I get the correct response, the next I get a 400 telling me im not signed in....
Lemmy.Fmhy.ml is a sweet spot. It’s in the top 10, but further down the list. Active and ran by cool admins. No issues from massive user counts (so far). The community is pretty strong and active so i imagine it’s got some staying power.
I switched just because of the difference the chipset makes. I’ve been running windows for gaming and Linux for personal shit forever - I’m not generally a fan of Apple and their walled garden business mod. But the MacBook pro with the m2 will run my dev environments and teams meetings from 8-5 all day on battery and still has a good 30-40% left at the end of the day. It’s not even competitive right now unfortunately, since I work remote I like to float around and work from different places and not having to worry about charging is a game changer.
Wife's boss is on a power trip. Is this legal?

I’m not really sure where to ask this question. Maybe there’s a lemmy dev community where these kind of discussions already happen....
