  1. Spent the afternoon listing personal goals and desired habits and made a solid plan to reach them.

  2. Most days this week will be great days for commuting to work by bike (if you don't mind a little wind)

  3. Beautiful weather outdoors. I can really feel spring on the way now.

Hey folks - it's been months since I've posted here! I've been pretty busy, though. Not just work, but also planning a charity bike ride to raise money for a local food bank. I'll be pushing myself to ~200km/day to get to Montreal in 3 days. Then, because our rail system isn't ready with the new train cars yet to get back home, I think I may ride to NYC and catch an Amtrak back to Toronto

  1. Yesterday I was able to finish the 2.5 hour over/under training ride I bailed on last week.

  2. Woke up early this morning convinced it was Monday. Realized I get another day off today!

  3. Loads of leftovers so no need to cook - more time to relax!

And of course the usual awesome stuff of longer, sunnier days and delicious coffee.

  1. Longer days are really noticeable now. A couple of times now I've managed to get home before dark!

  2. New budgeting method/app combined with mindful spending has made a huge difference in last month's spending.

  3. VO2Max (how efficiently I use oxygen during cycling) going back up after a dip. Apparently Garmin says my "Fitness age" has also dropped to 7.5 years below my calendar age whatever that means. 😄

  1. Yesterday I outfitted my washroom with coloured flashing lights and coloured LED showerhead. Some recharge with candlelit baths, I go for disco showers.

  2. Looking forward to today's long indoor ride and anticipating the outdoor ones to come.

  3. Another article I wrote in Hindi was published. https://chattisgarhmint.com/my-first-cycling-trip-in-india/

  1. Despite a 4AM alarm clock, I'm feeling good and motivated to take on the day.

  2. My charity bike ride to benefit our local food bank had two generous donations yesterday.

  3. I made fish curry and carrot pickle for the first time in months and it was delicious.

  1. Though it is still pretty cold outside, the days are noticeably lengthening and above zero temperatures are in the forecast.

  2. My workflow at work is evolving and getting more efficient. I am getting everything done with a bit of extra time to further optimize my processes.

  3. My last training ride felt relatively easy. I can feel my fitness improving. Still a long ways to go but I do feel confident that cycling 600km in 3 days is an attainable goal.

1 - Two days in a row again of WFH.

2 - My body is feeling good on this post long-ride rest day.

3 - January is over half way done. Days are getting longer and soon temperatures ought to be back above freezing. That will mean back to work commuting. Long outdoor rides could start as early as March.

  1. Longest and best sleep in recent memory last night.

  2. Getting inspired about new to me ingredients quinoa and chia seeds. There's potential here.

  3. After a chat with a friend who is an excellent cook, I'm inspired about some new ideas - deviating a bit from recipes. Whee!

At this stage of the winter the days are much the same with cozy daily habits like:

  1. Coffee, breakfast and games before work with @sagetyrtle

  2. A transit commute with >2 hours/day of reading time.

  3. A daily bike ride on Zwift with dreams of a big summer of outdoor riding.

I registered for the Five Boro(sp) Bike Tour in NYC this spring. I like trains and I've never done that trip via rail before so I booked that. It was the same price as flying but I figure I get more bang for my buck out of the train. I get a whole extra TWELVE HOURS OF TRAVEL for the SAME PRICE. Listen. MY LOGIC IS SOUND ON THIS OK.

Anywho. I found a Japanese Youtuber who did the route and now I'm even more excited.

Another screenshot of a youtube video. You can see a near empty car park with a stupid red SUV and some roadways with a tree covered hill and some mural covered retaining walls. It's kind of bleak. The caption on the video frame reads: "Maybe I should've just taken a plane to NY". FTP.
This screenshot, from the same video, shows the torso of the Youtuber who is wearing a grey shirt and black jacket seated in their train with the camera pointing at themselves. The caption on this video frame still reads: "Inside the train is absolute chaos". THIS EXCITES ME. DEFUND AND ABOLISH THE POLICE.

@christ I really love the idea of that. I've wanted to do that ride for literally years now. What's the plan for getting your bike there? Boxed, I guess?

@christ Oh wait! I just looked at the Amtrak site and you can just roll it ON? How effing amazing is this? This opens up so many possibilities!

  1. Unexpected WFH today.

  2. Loads of leftovers means dinner was so easy last night and lunch will be easy also.

  3. Knock wood but sticking to my new Gran Fondo training plan is being relatively easy so far.

  1. Volunteering opportunities where I feel I'm able to directly make even a small difference.

  2. My trainer and Zwift - the ability to get ready for a summer of big riding even when it's cold and dark out.

  3. Relaxing with family, reading and playing games for nearly all of my free time.

Been a while - still mostly not on social media but...

  1. So far my goal of managing my time intentionally (including intentional slacking)) is working well.

  2. Back on cycling training and looking forward to a huge year.

  3. It's been a long streak of good unputdownable books both fiction and non. Yay!

  1. Holiday Friday - after today no more work until 2024.

  2. Sickness almost completely gone.

  3. Excited and inspired for 2024 plans and adventures both known and unknown.

  1. I have a head cold with just the right severity to justify working from home but not feeling awful.

  2. I'm a bit shocked at how often I think "Coffee" when I write these out. Today I definitely appreciate it.

  3. Found that Instapaper works really well for me to spend even less time connected to the net and more time just reading instead.

  1. I created a spreadsheet to set goals in the morning and track my success with them in the evening. Being mindful about my intentions for the day is really helpful in ensuring I meet them and have a good day.

  2. It may be a busy work week but it's the last one of the year.

  3. Work stuff sorted for 2024. It'll be busy but steady.

I like self-checkouts because in Malaysia people don't go for them for some reason so there's hardly a queue there 😁
OK I am curious, do your fast food chains have self checkouts? Ours do.

@liztai It's just starting here but more common still in grocery stores. I like them. I know some feel that we should not implement them to keep jobs for humans but where were we when the jobs for farriers, typewriter repair people and video rental clerks went away?

  1. Delightful day at work with a holiday lunch out with the team and delicious Thai food.

  2. Really enjoying my new, faster route to work. Happy also that the "traffic culture" on the busiest road of it seems really nice. Drivers give lots of space and let me merge easily in construction areas.

  3. Today's bike commute home had double-digit temps. It gave me spring fever (when I wasn't worried about climate change). Noticing the longer afternoons already also.

toddtyrtle,

@3goodthings OK - maybe I'm exaggerating a little - they're still only a min or two longer now. I think it's the fake spring fever talking...

  1. Found a new, faster way to bike to work with less chance of ice.

  2. Getting better at pushing myself on the bike and off.

  3. Have created Trello boards for personal and work task management but also knowledge management to keep track of all the moving parts of what will likely be the busiest project of my career next year. Very satisfying to use.

  1. Started the day yesterday with a 4:45 AM Zwift bike race and a podium finish even without coffee.

  2. Managed to keep that momentum and was happy and productive all day.

  3. Reading Mark Beaumont's "Africa Solo and getting excited about pushing myself on a big bike project this summer.

  1. While I decided not to cycle to work due to snow/cold, I still did an hour on Zwift before and another hour after work and feel great.

  2. Because I rode indoors I also got to read for 2.5 hours today on transit.

  3. Discounted yummy baked goods from TooGoodToGo and tofu bowls made by Daegan for dinner.
