Saw this today and thought it was decent -- there were a lot of laughs and it avoided potentially questionable moments brought on by the premise with strong writing. The character moments feel authentic to towns with "seasonal" residents and by the end of the movie everyone comes off as nuanced with no outright antagonists...
I think I mostly agree with Mark there but for me the totally misjudged parts were isolated enough that it didn't ruin the whole thing. It feels like the script went through multiple drafts where they weren't quite sure how far to go with the creepiness and the final result is inconsistent
This is a great example of how aggressively useless chatgpt is at this kind of thing, the response is literally just the prompt rephrased and packaged like an answer lol
There’s no battle pass, no cosmetic store (though there is a $20 “Supporter Pack” that comes with gun skins)
The fact that they already have “a” microtransaction available means they invested a significant amount of time building out the infrastructure required to support them, there is a 0% chance they aren’t planning on putting in more once the game gets big
Beyond spez (and the fact that he is a greedy little pig boy), I’m curious about the corporate dynamics that prevent a company like Reddit from being profitable. From an outside perspective, they make hundreds of millions per year via advertising, their product is a relatively simple (compared to industries that need a lot of...
At a high level it just comes down to the company not being structured to generate profit -- fundamentally it exists to justify moving money from investors to the owners of reddit. That has worked up until now but in the current economic climate investors are looking for a return and it's exposing how many tech companies have been burning cash because of how easy it was to get with minimal accountability. Any feature reddit adds hasn't actually had to increase revenue, it's had to convince investors that it is going to increase revenue, which is why the few features they've added have basically been clones of features that attracted investors to other platforms (like the video streaming thing)
After nearly two decades of running the company that way it's going to be hard to pivot to actually generating money directly to cover what I imagine are loads of unnecessary expenses and inflated salaries
Editing comments doesn't devalue the data for reddit since they still have all the original data, it's only problematic for people trying to scrape the data from the public UI who are the exact people reddit wants to charge big bucks for API access so idk it this is hurting them in the way people seem to think

There were banging sounds picked up at 30 min intervals in the area, it's since stopped but my understanding is those indicated they were still alive "somewhere" at the time
You would need a separate account to participate in instances your home instance isn't federated with, ie anyone logged into lemmy.world would need a different account to use beehaw

I've been exploring the fediverse and subbing and posting all over the damn place. Realizing lemmy can federate with kbin blew my mind. Not to mention the possibility of turning my old laptop into a personal server to host my own instance. Is this what it felt like to discover how the internet worked in the 90s?
