I guess not quite a vignette but I still stand by the post

So sad to see an institution go. I heard they were canceling their celebration ales due to low sales but this is way worse. Happy I used to work near there on Rhode Island and did the daytime brewery tour, very cool history there and unique San Francisco climate that led to their signature beer.

The title suggests per day to me but the graph I’m quite sure is cumulative based on other data

Are communities with the same name, but different instances linked at all? e.g., Does /c/asklemmy@lemmy.ml and /c/asklemmy@lemmy.world have any relation?

I understand that a user on any instance can subscribe to any community in the fediverse, but I have been a bit confused when searching for communities to join. Sometimes there are communities on different instances, with the exact same name....

I think the opportunity is more interesting though for apps to provide a federated multi-community experience seamlessly. E.g. a/technology shows me an intermingled feed of all the c/technology communities that my home instance federated with

Same, 14 years but had followed mastodon some and read up on activity pub, but meanwhile I never used Twitter and liked how reddit reminded me of forums and bbs/usenet/email listservs before that.

I definitely see how lemmy is rough around the edges, and I'm sure that will cause issues with any sort of mass long term reddit exodus, but personally I'm loving the experience, the dev community, the underlying philosophy, etc. & at least for the communities I've been following that decently high barrier to entry has uplifted most of the discussion (albeit while kneecapping niche or local or whatever discussion entirely because there isn't a community for it)

This is correct. And given the parent license is MIT I'd just include an MIT LICENSE file in my fork and be done with it.

OP sounds strange to me I feel like all Scandinavians have their flag a lot, on birthday cakes and for graduations and such. I definitely experienced this in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

Gmail AI Can Now Write Emails for You on Your Phone: How It Works (www.cnet.com)

Summary: • Gmail's 'Help Me Write' AI feature can now draft automated messages in Gmail, text messages and Google apps. • The Help Me Write feature expands on the "Smart Compose" and "Smart Reply" features already offered by Gmail. • Users can further edit the email manually or send it as is once drafted.

This already exists. So a human feeds 4 bullet points into an LLM which generates a few paragraph email. On the other side an LLM reads the paragraph and generates 4 bullet points. It's like reverse compression.

There's def a bug in current jerboa. For op I see totals without voting. For your comment I don't see them if I don't vote. If I upvote I still don't see them but if I downvote I do

Ah i see how you do see the total plus minus on the right but still weird the specific numbers only show if you downvote

https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/pull/667 makes the behavior much more consistent IMO

zio-http, tapir, and psql. React/typescript on the FE because I already know it and don't want to learn another FE framework.

But I'm pumped lemmy is in rust as it gives me an excuse to fool around with it. Equally saddened kbin is php as I will use that as an excuse to never fool around with it.

Reddit r/rust is discussing the possibility of moving to Lemmy. If you are still an active Reddit user, please consider giving it some upvotes to show your support. (old.reddit.com)

If you haven't heard the news, Reddit is making some drastic, user-hostile changes. This is essentially the final stage of any ad-supported and VC-funded platform's inevitable march towards enshittification....

https://lemmyrs.org/c/rustlang seems to me a more reasonable instance and home for r/rust than lemmy.ml/c/rust

Yeah I'd love a way to have user preference to merge multiple communities (from my pov) for exactly this issue.

Linus Torvalds -- Creator of Linux -- defends gun regulation, woke communists, womens rights AND trans rights. Linux is political! (cdn.masto.host)

Linus' thread: (CW: bigotry and racism in the comments) https://social.kernel.org/notice/AWSXomDbvdxKgOxVAm (you need to scroll down, i can't seem to link to the comment in the screenshot)

@morgthorak I think you might want to make sure you don’t follow me.

Because your “woke communist propaganda” comment makes me think you’re a moron of the first order.

I strongly suspect I am one of those “woke communists” you worry about. But you probably couldn’t actually explain what either of those words actually mean, could you?

I’m a card-carrying atheist, I think a woman’s right to choose is very important, I think that “well regulated militia” means that guns should be carefully licensed and not just randomly given to any moron with a pulse, and I couldn’t care less if you decided to dress up in the “wrong” clothes or decided you’d rather live your life without feeling tied to whatever plumbing you were born with.

And dammit, if that all makes me “woke”, then I think anybody who uses that word as a pejorative is a f*cking disgrace to the human race. So please just unfollow me right now.
