So sad to see an institution go. I heard they were canceling their celebration ales due to low sales but this is way worse. Happy I used to work near there on Rhode Island and did the daytime brewery tour, very cool history there and unique San Francisco climate that led to their signature beer.
Is there some formal way(s) of quantifying potential flaws, or risk, and ensuring there’s sufficient spread of tests to cover them? Perhaps using some kind of complexity measure? Or a risk assessment of some kind?...
I understand that a user on any instance can subscribe to any community in the fediverse, but I have been a bit confused when searching for communities to join. Sometimes there are communities on different instances, with the exact same name....
I think the opportunity is more interesting though for apps to provide a federated multi-community experience seamlessly. E.g. a/technology shows me an intermingled feed of all the c/technology communities that my home instance federated with
Same, 14 years but had followed mastodon some and read up on activity pub, but meanwhile I never used Twitter and liked how reddit reminded me of forums and bbs/usenet/email listservs before that.
I definitely see how lemmy is rough around the edges, and I'm sure that will cause issues with any sort of mass long term reddit exodus, but personally I'm loving the experience, the dev community, the underlying philosophy, etc. & at least for the communities I've been following that decently high barrier to entry has uplifted most of the discussion (albeit while kneecapping niche or local or whatever discussion entirely because there isn't a community for it)
My ex from Norway mentioned how unusual it was that so many places and people here fly our flag (USA), so I was curious to hear what it's like for others here on the fediverse.
OP sounds strange to me I feel like all Scandinavians have their flag a lot, on birthday cakes and for graduations and such. I definitely experienced this in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

This already exists. So a human feeds 4 bullet points into an LLM which generates a few paragraph email. On the other side an LLM reads the paragraph and generates 4 bullet points. It's like reverse compression.
There's def a bug in current jerboa. For op I see totals without voting. For your comment I don't see them if I don't vote. If I upvote I still don't see them but if I downvote I do
zio-http, tapir, and psql. React/typescript on the FE because I already know it and don't want to learn another FE framework.
But I'm pumped lemmy is in rust as it gives me an excuse to fool around with it. Equally saddened kbin is php as I will use that as an excuse to never fool around with it.
See https://lemmy.ml/comment/584801 all day today got 502 nginx error on my phone, finally switched from 5g (Verizon) to my wifi and now it works, I'm sure because of ipv4 vs v6
If you haven't heard the news, Reddit is making some drastic, user-hostile changes. This is essentially the final stage of any ad-supported and VC-funded platform's inevitable march towards enshittification....
I'm working on a draft MR to fix https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/issues/7 any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Never done any android dev before but let's see how this goes.

What are some of your favorite literary vignettes?

100% code coverage is near-meaningless - but is there a good measure to use?

Lemmy Just Reached 1 Million Posts (lemmy.world)

Are communities with the same name, but different instances linked at all? e.g., Does /c/asklemmy@lemmy.ml and /c/asklemmy@lemmy.world have any relation?

Hypothetically speaking, if Reddit back tracks on their API plan and meets all of the communities expeditions- would you go back to Reddit?
I myself am really on the fence about this....

Hello everyone....

I created !eastbay if anybody wants a slightly more local bay area community
Is there a release schedule?
Do we know when the next version will come out?
How common is it to fly your country's flag, and how is it seen by others?

Can Jerboa show upvotes on comments?
Just what it says. Can we see the upvotes on comments? It's a little obfuscating if you're mostly a commenter like I am. Maybe it's me, let me know.
If you had to make a reddit/kbin-like clone, what tech stack would you use?
Thinking of starting a personal project to keep busy. I'm very good with databases and SQL but interested in branching out to more full-stack...
